New 7th Gen owner

Hello to all! I recently purchased a 7th gen Civic LX automatic from my mother with 90k for $6k and with 4 brand new GoodYear tires. I had to sell my 8th Gen Civic auto with Navi to pay some bills. I truly enjoyed the 8th Gen Civic and will miss it very much but I'm sure that something will come along better. Anyhow, I still love the 7th Gen and I know for the time being it will serve its purpose as the 8th Gen have done for me. I am planning on upgrading the speakers and the factory stereo to put my stamp on the 7th Gen (and maybe some new rims). I don't care much for doing a whole lot of upgrading or anything to make it look like one of those "Fast and the Furious" kind of cars. I always buy cars that comes fully loaded. I will take any suggestions on replacement speakers and stereo. Her color is Taffeta White and she could use some detailing and definately waxing. I'm sure that this website will be helpful as the 8th Gen website was very helpful..Will post picture soon!

BTW: does the 7th Gen or 2005 Civic have timing chain or timing belt?

Re: New 7th Gen owner

Your mom SOLD it to you?
What kind of mother is that?!
She should have just given it to you!

Anyways, WOOT another member rocking the tafetta white, definitely should snap some pix of it for us
and make sure you give it some TLC, as white tends to dirty up real easy
Check out mine that I just waxed and cleaned

And also, about your speaker issues:

My god that is sexy

Too bad it has the side moldings, those take the edge off the styling

Otherwise, keep up the cleanliness on that baby!

Chains are more advanced than belts, I believe, that's why they made the change on k-series engines.

Re: New 7th Gen owner

Nice ride! I love the white so much.

As for the chain discussion going on here, what are the benefits of a chain? I'm guessing they don't wear out like a belt and def a much less chance of slipping?

Not if you do it yourself. Just get a can of Honda Taffeta White and some clear coat. I couldn't see that running you more then $40.

I went from a 2009 Civic EX auto with Navi to a 2005 Civic LX. I didn't want to sell it but it was the right thing to do. Sold it and paid some bills. What's left was $6k and she sold it to me for $6k. I told my mom she doesn't have to that she can sell it to someone else. She really wanted to keep the civic in the family. I'm happy she did because she took really good care of it. Even have all receipts of the maintenance records. Didn't have to transfer anything since the car was already in my name. Finally got the new SI wheels on it. Now just working on maybe getting a new stereo and speakers (OMG!!! the factory speakers are a joke!!!).

Chains do wear out over time, it just takes much longer than belts.

Well ya, thats a given. Just like a plastic knife vs kitchen knife. The plastic is a one day use, while the kitchen knife lasts much longer but eventually does dull out and needs to be sharpened. Good analogy?

Honda does, in the eight gen civic, yes the base dx and lx models as well. LOL.

Belts just snap when they go causing all kinds of havoc.

Chains get loose as they wear out and throw off the timing a little bit which OBDII can warn you about. Better all round technology.
