Installing a 01 Lx transmission
Installing a 01 Lx transmission
I have a 01 Civic LX automatic. I have been searching on the site and cant find anything about replacing the transmission. I just put a motor in the car from a 05 EX. My transmission threw a code P0740 and now the car wont move (Needs a tranny) My question is has anyone done this? Im doing it without a lift. I was going to try to put my car up on jack stands and try to pull it from under the car. I was also trying to figure out if I can pull it from the top (thats how I replaced my engine) Has anyone done it from the top or know of any tricks or easier ways of replacing my transmission? I would greatly appreciate any help. I also have access to websites like Mitchell and indentifix and would be more than willing to help anyone out the best I can. Just message me. Thanks any help would be great

Re: Installing a 01 Lx transmission
First off, if your replacing the transmission buy an 04/05 automatic not an 01-03. Honda discretely changed something in 04 that almost completely eliminated the massive problems with slipping and premature failure in 01-03 transmissions.
You can pull the trans from underneath the car, you just support the car with jack stands and use a jack and a board to hold up the engine while you remove the trans. I've never seen a DIY on how to do it though..

Yeah I have the support I need to hold the engine up and it goes over the strut mounts. After I do this I'll post some pictures. I'm also going to see if I can do it from the top without pulling the motor. Thanks
Re: Installing a 01 Lx transmission
Yeah I was able to remove it that way. It was very simple to do. What happened is the torque converter starts to come apart internally and clogs up the internal filter causing the pump to not get atf. Supposedly the aftermarket torque converter is thicker than the one Honda put in the car so I wont have this problem. Im just having my transmission rebuilt because I dont want another used one to give me the same issues in 30k miles. If anyone does have to go through this check your struts, mounts and control arm bushings while your here. The bushings are not easy to press so I found it easier to just order the control arms with the bushings and ball joints.
