Car Shakes on Acceleration

I was stopped at a red light today and when the light changed to green I applied the gas, but the rpms dropped and the car just shook; since I was on very slight incline the car started to roll backwards. The car never fully died though. The guy behind me in the Toyota Trecel apparently really likes his car the way he was honking. Anyways what could cause this, the fuel system pickup? The car is an auto so its not like I almost stalled it and I keep the car in good mechanical condition. Any ideas?

Re: Car Shakes on Acceleration

ur trans could be about to go, probably the torque converter was slipping or something.

@cchiang12
I use just standard 87 octane from the same Kangaroo gas station, which is a reputable gas station in NC.

@HLC
I thought it might be the transmission, but the rpms dropped. If the tranny slipped wouldnt the rpms rise, but the car not move. I may be wrong

Re: Car Shakes on Acceleration

about the gas, i think the owners manual says the civic requires 86 octane. so ur good there.

and about the trans. why didn't u just give it more gas? i mean it was an incline. so it happens. my friend can stall his auto lexus rx on an incline.

Re: Car Shakes on Acceleration

I did give it more gas and more gas I gave it the more it shook. And this was a very slight incline, my driveway is steeper than the incline on this road and the car goes up the driveway fine everyday. I tried to replicate the situation on my driveway, but the car handled it just fine. I guess this can just be added up to a one time occurence

Re: Car Shakes on Acceleration

try this and see if it helps any scroll down to ITCV cleaning diy . also get a tune up plugs filter and try a fuel system cleaner like tecron or gumout.

Re: Car Shakes on Acceleration

I've done a few of those items in that DIY but not the IACV. I was planning on new sparkplugs this summer, but its probally a good idea to bump it up to now. Thanks All...

Re: Car Shakes on Acceleration

iacv has nothing to do with the rpms dropping when applying gas. it would have to do with...you guessed it, idling.
