Hi everyone,

hope someone can help me, my car starting making this hissing sound when idling, i was working on it one day and it was running had the hood open, and notice a hissing sound noise coming from the left side around the belt area.

low noise, sounds like a steam train taking off. Weird can't explain it better.

i'm guessing its a honda but what make and year.

Hissing sound, if not mistaken is a vacuum leak. Can you narrow it down any further possibly?

its an 03 civic lx. at first sound you would think it's the belt bu it's not.

well belts will be squealing not hissing, i'm not familiar with the vacuum schematic of the em2, but if its hissing it will be most likely be vacuum leak.

does it sound like a hissing sound or a sucking sound, they sound completely different. if you said it sounds like a belt but you know its not. that leaves only two things, either a lubricant or air leak. youd notice if it was a lube leak quite easily so its obviously air.

also, do you have any mods? everything makes a difference. my engine has a constant low sucking tone and its because of my intake. its a deep whoooo sucking sound. do you have an intake? if you do, its perfectly normal.

No i do not have any mods. Its sounds like a hissing sound as the belt turns when it idles.

can't seem to pin point it.
