i cant find the AEM filter cleaner i was wondering if there is something else i can use like simple green or something along those lines that wont hurt the filter material.

yea any of that stuff will just ruin it. the only thing you should be using is the special aem cleaner, or if you cant find it, you can use the k&n filter cleaner (like i did) which worked out just fine. the k&n one is designed for gauze/mesh filters, so it has a cleaner spray, and an oil spray, but you do not use the oil spray, just the cleaner. it ended up working great for me, but that was only because i didnt want to wait for the aem one to ship to me.

you can easily get the k&n filter recharge kit on any shelf at a parts store for about $12 if you dont want to wait, otherwise youll have to order the aem one online and wait to get it.

i have a K&N cleaning kit but i didn't think i could use it for a synthetic filter.

no the aem uses a different formulation for its dryflow cleaner, which explains why they discontinued all their old cotton gauze cleaning kits when they threw out their old cotton filters.

well yeah, a new filter with new material will require a new cleaner, so of course theyd formulate something up specific for it, but the cotton/gauze filter cleaner works just fine if you have it on hand. you just use the cleaner the way you would on a cotton/gauze rather than the way you would use the aem stuff by filling a bucket with water and cleaner and dunking it in.

it doesnt get it quite as clean as ive seen in the videos for the aem stuff, but it still cleans it very well. you just need to give it a full night and part of a day to dry. the first time i cleaned mine it took forever to dry. at least 3 times longer than what a gauze filter takes which dries overnight.
