Hey guys quick question, did some internet research but didnt get much answers. I know the advantages and disadvantes of thin and thick oils, I have been using Mobil 1 5w20 since I owned the car and it has worked great. I live in ontario and it gets a bit cold here in the winter and was wondering about trying 0W20. Anyways what do you guys think, only reason I ask is it says better fuel economy with 0w20 just wondering if its true. I will deffienetly try it next winter for the cold but wondering about spring. ( I dont want to hear anything about conventional oil or 5w30 oil, like I said I know the benefits of thick and thin synthetic and conventional oil)

I doubt that you will see much difference but I'm just guessing. Unless you take a lot of short trips your oil probably spends most of it's time at the normal weight (20) not the winter weight (0 or 5). Mobil uses the fuel economy designation for it 0w-20 and 0w-30 but not 0w-40 oil so it may be that they made other changes as well when compared to the 5w-20 or 5w-30 oils. If you have had good luck with the 5w-20 I would consider 0w-20 year round. I use a 0w-30 syn all year.

0w20 should be fine in sub-freezing temps. all it does is provide better starts because it has a lower cold viscosity. i doubt you would see much mileage improvement, maybe 0.5mpg increase until the engine warms up. for spring, stick with the 5w20.

Cool thanks, well work is only 5-10 min or so away enough to get the engine warmed up but dont do a whole lot of driving otherwise. So I will prob stick with 5w20 for spring and summer and 0w20 cold seasons. Its weird how Mobil 1 is always marked like its made for certain things lol, like mobil 1 10w30 "For high mileage vehicles" although its not a real High mileage oil, and 5w30 is labeled "New car formula"
