Shaving Calipers

I know this isn't the place to post this but im not a member anywhere else and was just wondering if anybody could give me some input. So my girlfriend has an 03 Acura RSX type-s and i just bought some 15'' rims with snow tires on them. The black ones fit perfect, but the front ones hit the caliper. I bought some 1/4'' spacers but the caliper hits still. Im thinking the only option i have left would be to shave them down a little bit to make them fit. Is this something i should not do? Has anybody ever shaved their calipers before? And lastly, would a dremal work for this? if not how should i go about shaving them down. I looked all over on Google and couldn't find squat. Please help!!!!

Re: Shaving Calipers

i would not touch the calipers at all. even slight shaving can cause them to fail under stress and cause a big mess.

Re: Shaving Calipers

no way, i would never ever even think of doing that. if the rims or tires are brand new, return them for another size. you will need to get the 16s or steelie 16s (thats what the rsx s comes with stock) for fitment without problems.

Re: Shaving Calipers

yea if you had 15 in the back and 16 in the front it might look a bit funny but it would run just fine and wouldnt mess anything up.

however, the winter tires will not fit on 16s though since they are made for 15s. youd need to get the 16 rims and 16 winter tires.

Re: Shaving Calipers

not sure if you understood what i said, but your winter tires are on the 15" rims already, that means theyre made for 15" rims. if youre going to buy 16" rims for the front, you will need to buy 16" snow tires for them as well. you cant take 2 of your winter tires off the 15" steelies and put them on your new 16" steelies. it wont work.

Re: Shaving Calipers

Why don't you just get some spacers? Thats what I did when I got my BBK. Here's the spacers I got.... http://www.ichibausa.com/civic9605.html

Re: Shaving Calipers

I already tried half inch spacers and it still didn't work. And I do understand what your saying about the tires. I am just looking for some 16'' steelies that are 5 lug. I already have an extra snow tires for 16'' just dont have the rim. Thats why im looking for 2 16'' steelies. Then i don't kno what im going to do with the extra set of 15s but atleast ill have snow tires on all fours. If the snow ever comes, it hasnt snowed yet here where i live in NY.

Re: Shaving Calipers

oh you already have a couple 16" snow tires. good. yeah dont worry it will come. snow hasnt really come to us yet either and we get lots of it. ive had mine on for over a month just waiting.

you should look in your local classifieds. maybe try craigslist or buysell or kijiji (those are the highly used local ones where i live) or whatever ones are used where you live. i bet you can find a couple for like 50$ or less.
