new paint job help

I was looking into getting a new paint job and my friend can get my car painted for only the cost of the paint through people at his school. i have no idea about painting a car or anything like that so what kind of paint could i buy and how much would it cost me?

i was looking around and saw some theads on the net about the "$50 diy paint job" so paint can't be too much right?

also what are your guys opinion on color? i know thats more of a personal choice but i want something that stands out from other cars on the road but not obnoxious or anything...maybe like a metallic blue or something like that...i have an 02 civic ex (currently black)

Re: new paint job help

first thing i would do is ask to see another car that these guys have painted before and inspect it very good. if youre happy with the work then thats half the battle done already. a lesson that i have learned (and many other guys probably have too) is that just because its free, doesnt make it worth it. sometimes the work is so crappy, that if you could go back in time, youd pay more than you would have had to in the first place just to fix the mess.

as for paint, i know a lot of guys on here do bodywork, im not one of them, but the first thing i would do is call and ask a honda dealership if there is some way you can get paint from them. if its a honda oem genuine paint, you know its going to be good quality. i would look at the newer model hondas and find a nice sharp looking colour that you like (that is not on any 7th gen) and go with that. it would stand out becuase no other 7th gen has it.

Re: new paint job help

most "good" paint jobs run from $3-5k. and most of that is in the prep work, which takes weeks. paint isnt that expensive esp if they already mixed up a big batch for another car.
