Carbon Fiber hood..?

does anyone have it..? (i think everyone in here have one)

um.. beside it looking so F!@#ing cool.. does it help with anything..? anything bad about it..?

like would the hood shadder and fly into our faces if you have a head-on collision.. or the nozzle taken out.. (i think this is true).. or lighten our car and make us a little faster..

does anyone have any recommendation on this..? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CIVIC-SI-02-03-04-05-HONDA-EVO-SEIBON-CARBON-FIBER-HOOD_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQh ashZitem4a9b0679bfQQitemZ320428472767QQptZMotorsQ5 fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories im drooling over this thing right now.. but iono about the quality..

Re: Carbon Fiber hood..?

Well I think the only real benefit is that it is lighter than the OEM hood, but I doubt on these slow *** cars it would make much difference. If you are afraid of it flying off the latch on the freeway for example, you can always get hood pins, but these are not always necessary.I would also recommend that you get a quality brand name product, made by VIS or Seibon, and that you get an OEM style hood and nothing with vents or air ducts. Also I would keep the hood waxed as often as I can because the sun will kill it eventually- one of the reasons why I havent gotten a CF hood is because I park outside and dont wanna wash it/wax it all the time...

Re: Carbon Fiber hood..?

yeah its alot of maintenance to keep it new looking, it might fly up on the freeway and trash your car (you need hoodpins), and its only maybe 5-10 lbs lighter than stock hood. oh and they crack very easily.

Re: Carbon Fiber hood..?

if you get hood pins the hood cant fly open if it does malfunction which is very unlikely.

Re: Carbon Fiber hood..?

Didnt say you had to wax it every day. At least once per two weeks is fine.... three weeks if you're that lazy...

Re: Carbon Fiber hood..?

yeah it has no uv protection so if you wait a month it will start to turn yellow. i remember seeing someone post pics of what happened when the hood flew back to the windshield. car was totaled i think. the whole front and top of the car was messed. so hoodpins are pretty much required if you care about your car. its very brittle too so if you slam the hood too many times it might shatter.

Re: Carbon Fiber hood..?

yes i have the same VIS evo style above . as far as wax goes VIS and SEIBON use gel coats so dont use carnauba wax it will discolor use a synthetic polymer wax it will also protect better and will need less waxing.those brands do have UV protection but its not enough.as far as being brittle just don't slam the hood like it was stock push it closed thats all but if your going to worry about it so much i wouldn't evan bother.

Re: Carbon Fiber hood..?

I have a Siebon OEM style cf hood and I love it! The latch is really sturdy. It has held up to 140mph on the freeway with barely a shudder. I do wax it once a week, and scratch-x it once a month. It really doesnt do much for performance, but it sets the style off for real. Looks clean and nice!

Re: Carbon Fiber hood..?

i wouldnt scrach-x it that often, maybe once a year if you really have to. it takes off some coating each time. for a good wax i suggest 3M performance finish which is a pure synthetic silicone wax that lasts up to 5 months. usually i go several months no problem and it beads water better than any other wax ive tried.

I have the same Seibon OEM style and it stays closed really well. I do not have hood pins installed.

Re: Carbon Fiber hood..?

yes but the latch itself isn't the problem its when the carbon fiber top separates from the fiber glass bottom skeleton is were the problem lies. you can also use synthetic boat wax which is actually designed for gell coats and has better UV protection because of the reflection of the water.
