HID Help DRL/Highbeam
HID Help DRL/Highbeam
Hey, Ive seen this covered a few times but I havent seen a real solution yet.
I installed 6000K Hi/Low HID system today, the low beam works great however I lost my DRLs(and the DRL and high beam light show up on the dash) and I only have the highbeams on the passanger light, the driver side light goes off.
Whats the problem and how can I fix this?
Thanks in advance

Re: HID Help DRL/Highbeam
well its not a fixable problem. your old bulb had two filaments, one lo and one hi. and the DRL uses the hi beam filament at 1/2 power. hid only has one "arc chamber" so the bulb is either on at full power or off. the hid hi beam is prolly activated by moving the single bulb back so it shines further away. and even if you wanted to try and rewire, the hid bulb will not run at 1/2 power. only thing i can think of if you want drl is either buy a kit for the turn signals or buy fog lights or some other running light with enough glare to make them visible during the day.

Re: HID Help DRL/Highbeam
do you have a small halogen bulb mounted right next to the hid bulb? if so then yes it should work if the wiring is properly connected. make sure the harness is connected properly so the hi beam bulb is hooked up.
Re: HID Help DRL/Highbeam
Yea there is a small halogen bulb next to it.
When installing it only had one connection to the orginal socket (on the driver side) and each bulb had three connectors, 3 were used on the passanger side and 2 were used on the driver side, that all there were from the controler and ballasts. Everything was connected but the diagram was slightly different by requiring a thrid connection to the driver side which was not there. Im thinking that could be the problem basicly meaning the whole system is missing a wire and connection or that halogen bulb is dead.

Re: HID Help DRL/Highbeam
well if the filament looks intact and not broken, the bulb is prolly fine. i really dont know where to start with the wiring other than getting in there and carefully testing the wires to see which is for hid and halogen, then matching it to the stock wires correctly.
Re: HID Help DRL/Highbeam
Well I tried doing some rewiring and it didnt help. I just pulled the 2 drl fuses under the steering wheel to eliminate the drl light on my dash. I dont know what else to do :S Thanks for the help Gearbox!
Re: HID Help DRL/Highbeam
Fixed it! According to the diagram and a video on youtube you only had to connect the system to the orginal socket in one place. LIE. I pluged in the other side and it fully works. Sometimes the problem is right in front of your face and you dont even notice it.
