Hey guys. I have an 05 civic EX pretty much stock minus sound system.
Im not really mechanically inclined compared to some people here, but I know out 7th gens arent fast cars, and the d17 is an undertuned motor that does not do much with bolt ons. I just want to put on a short ram, headers and get custom exhaust done locally. I figured if I shop around I can get this all done for under $800. I know the HP increase will be minimal, and i'm already familiar with the d17 and how us 7th geners are doomed for life with it, (unless you turbo it, but thats another can of worms)
$800 or less for better sound, slight better fuel economy and throttle response...
Not bad. I hate the small straw that is the OEM exhaust. I wont go too big. Maybe 2.25 diameter.
Anyways, DC sports headers are too expensive. I was thinking megan Racing, saw one on ebay for $150 or so. Just wondering whats the difference between the ebay no name hong kong special cheapy headers, and say DC's or Megans?
I would assume the welding is ****, and the metal is thinned out a lot?
How about OBX, has anyone heard of them?

Would you put that in your car? I'm just looking for the best bang for buck header/exhaust. They all say "high grade stainless steel blah blah" but whos to believe?
Short ram ill just get an AEM or whatever. I also plan on going catless as I dont need government inspection for quite a bit of years to come.

Re: Header quality

keep the oem header if you dont have money for the DC (basically same size as oem). the larger headers will rob hp because gases flow more slowly if you put a big header on a small engine. you can get intake and exhaust, that wont really change much. maybe extra 2hp and some noises.

Re: Header quality

Same size? I thought the oem was something like 1.75 and megan for example is 2.0..
I know if you go too big (2.25 or more) than you lose back pressure which is a no-no.

Re: Header quality

Well, on a few forums some mechanically inclined dudes have said as long as you stay in the 2 - 2.25 inch region you should be fine in terms of back pressure etc etc.....
So what is the stock size? Would it make a difference if I kept the stock header and just custom 2-2.25 inch exhaust done and catback removed?
