carbon fiber hood + MPG
carbon fiber hood + MPG
i was just pondering whether i would lose mpg or gain mpg with my VIS evo style hood. on one hand its extremely light compared to the stock hood but on the other hand it has more drag with the vents.also it should run cooler and supply cooler air to my sri being directly in the path of the left vent . any ideas ???

Re: carbon fiber hood + MPG
i really doubt its a noticable difference. our hoods barely weigh 20 lbs, they are light compared to other hoods like the accord that i almost need two hands to lift its almost 40 lbs. so on the civic, you prolly saved 10 lbs, which is nothing. the vents are good for cooling, so you may use a tiny bit more fuel since colder air is going in the engine. but again, i doubt you would notice anything. overall you will gain 0.1hp and lose 0.1 mpg lol.

i did realise that it would be minuscule i was just curious . i only bought it cuz it looks freakin badazz

Re: carbon fiber hood + MPG
thats prolly my favorite hood. i think it would look nice painted the color of the car and black vent mesh. only seen that done once but it looked great. cf hoods scare me tho cause if the latch breaks youre screwed. and hood pins look bad. but on the right color car, cf looks nice too (white is best).
Re: carbon fiber hood + MPG
i was thinking of painting it to match except leaving the mesh like you said black but also leaving the the two indentations off the side inlets black carbon fiber also kind off like what they did to the nissan gt-r hood. i also hate the way hood pins ruin the sleakness of the hood but im installing them regardless for safty purposes i dont need the hood smashing my windshield on the highway not good . i was thinking of getting these aero catch pins to get a more flush appearance .
