There is info out there to get high flow cats, bigger exhausts, intakes etc to gain hp while gaining mpg at the same time.

However, i thought of a new concept that most would probably call crazy.

The civic hybrids turn off the gas engine when the brake is applied. What does this mean? Straight back exhausts etc, since if a cop pulls you over, than just apply the brake while he is doing the reading. No tickets, except maybe a decible reading thats too high.

Anyway, if one were trying to gain the most MPG from their hybrids, what mods would one want to add?

weight reduction, lighter wheels, lubecontrol.com additives, beefier battery (with more cca), ground wire upgrade, etc. anything that makes the car not have to work as hard.

Would this also include mods such as bigger exhaust pipes, header, cold air intake. All increasing air flow without modding the engine, so it makes it gain hp without increasing gas usage.

intake and exhaust can increase mpg, but usually only on the highway where there are no acceleration changes. ive gotten between 40-42 mpg with i/h/e mods. its possible but also depends on other conditions like speed and condition of engine. usually driving in the city with modded engine will use more gas. more power from mods uses more gas. so unless you go easy on the throttle, you will lose mpg. the ecu will add more fuel when it sees more air coming in the engine. but not much on these engines.
