Re: led license plate lights

I have a license plate cover from an auto store that has a couple skulls with LED eyes. Since they are red, I rigged them to come on with brake lights. Unfortunately, my genious is lost to most drivers.

these are the one's i got, just in white. i know back home in alabama you can't have blue or red lights on your at all unless at a standstill with the car off...something to do with people gettin you confused with a cop car, i dunno. i have blue interior lighting and got pulled over and said i couldn't have it on while driving at all unless i was stopped, only time i have it on is if i'm changin out a cd or something and that's how i got pulled over for it...i don't know how it is out here in vegas but i think it might be the same, who knows, every state is more strict on certain things than other states

Re: led license plate lights

i get all of my lighting off of ebay and ive never ever once had a problem. you just have to find the reliable sellers. ive changed all my interior lights...my front and rear dome lights, map lights, my licence plate/parking light bulbs, trunk lights etc etc.

if anyone wants i can give them some sellers that will ship good quality very nice bright bulbs too.

its always way way cheaper than what you guys are saying too.

Re: led license plate lights

generally, i go by that belief too, but there are times when id feel retard if i spent double or triple on something when i know theyre all produced the same way and use the exact same types of materials.

its an led bulb, the materials and technology only go so far to make it. they can be produced in mass amounts for a next to nothing cost. some guys just choose to sell for less and make up for profit by selling 5 times as many as the next guy.

ive been using all mine for over 2 years (except the parking ones ive had in for 1 year) and havent had a single problem with any of them. i was just throwing the suggestion out there though.

Re: led license plate lights

hey untuned, where did you get the bulbs for your dome lights, map lights, parking light bulbs, and trunk lights? are the size bulbs you used any different from our stock lights? (if thats even a possibility)

lowlife-these are the exact bulbs i got, there wasn't much description on what you were asking on the package of the bulbs but these are them, just pop out your stock one's and put these in, if they don't work then turn the bulb around, thats what happened to me, once i turned the bulb around it worked. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/White...Q5fAccessories

Re: led license plate lights

i used to order from superbrightled/com but i have had so many leds fail or flicker that i since stoped.

i had 6led bulbs in the licance plate and a cop pulled me ofer for "having strobes on the car" i said no i dont. he continued to argue with me so i got out opened the trunk and 5 out of 6 led were flickering in a strobe way. i told the oficer that the leds must have failed. ofcourse he didnt understand. so igot my emerengecy bulbs out of the spare tire area and fixed it. he wasent happy but he let me go.

Re: led license plate lights

lol well i dont know of any "premade" led bulbs that work well. most use crappy leds or improper voltage regulation or are only designed for 12v instead of 14v when car is running.

Re: led license plate lights

as far as the law goes yes i'm pretty sure those lights are all 50 state legal. the only exceptions to this rule include having Red (similar to brake lights), white lights, or yellow. any other colors on your liscense plate frame can get you a ticket as for imposing as an emergency vehicle or posing as a potential hazard on the road to other drivers via distractions.

this applies to all the californians too.

Re: led license plate lights

Nice lights, fiend!

I get all my lighting off of ebay too...

In this case, things are so much cheaper because your cutting out the middle man.
Rather, 8 middle men - lol!
I've noticed my last 5 or so purchases have been shipped directly from Hong Kong, China.

I got some LED dashboard lights for my truck - 10 bulbs for 99 cents on ebay (again, shipped from Hong Kong). Radio Shack sold the EXACT same ones for $3.49 EACH!

I sometimes agree about cheaper not always being better (thats why I bought a Honda and not a Neon or Cavalier), but sometimes spending more just means your paying the greedy people in between you and the factory - LOL!

Re: led license plate lights

i was talking to a friend at work yesterday and he had green led's for his plate and got pulled over then the cops searched his car (either that or make him wait til a cop came with a warrant) so he let him instead of waiting there for an hour or two...turns out the reason why they searched his car was because apparently in florida green led's are a sign of a drug dealer/drug trafficer

Re: led license plate lights

fiend, i got pretty much most of my lights from one seller on ebay inparticular. his username is: warden_jp2002

i got my map lights, front dome light, licence plate lights, front signals, and front parking lights all from him. all were excellent quality and work well still. the rear dome light was hard to find but i got it from someone else.

if it says they are 168, 194, 7443 etc etc, that means that they will actually fit in place of your stock one and light up, and for the most part you wont have any problem at all.

the only problem at all that i ran into, was for my front dome light and my map lights (all 3 are 168/194 bulbs) i chose a 13 led bulb (yea i know its a lot, but it looks really good) it fit in place and lit up fine, but the dome light cover doesnt go on anymore because they stick out a little further than the stock ones. if you go with a 1, 2 or i think 3 led bulb it would be fine, but i went with big ones that stuck out a little more.

i can take a couple pictures of what they look like in place too and maybe ill post some up. for the most part each set was literally between $0.99 and 2.99 depending on the bulb and how many leds you wanted in it.
