Thumbs down My Subframe

So... I've had my 2002 Civic Hatch for a year now and recently the front engine mounting went. today it was at the dealer, they couldnt change the front mount because it had been in an accident which bent the subframe, putting extra pressure on the engine mounts - causing the front to break.

are these things fixable - can they be made straight? the dealer quoted me R11000 (which is +- $1000) to replace the part.

also, i'm worried that if the accident it was in was quite bad, other things will soon go wrong as well - but the dealer has checked the car and says it seems fine.

any advice/experience with these type things is appreciated.

Re: My Subframe

no. the subframe is like a paper clip...once you bend it you will never straighten it out again...and its not something you'd want to trust your motor with.

i was in an accident recently and my subframe went as well...the dealer quoted you for over a thousand which is typical because dealerships are *****. you can pick a honda subframe up for 450 online if you look hard enough.

i would not trust the dealership on their opinion. alot of people told me that my car was fine as well and i just needed to replace the subframe and lo and behold my main frame actually had been tweaked and was causing alignment problems.

when it comes to situations like these risk nothing and take the time to get it checked at for free at your local autobody shop just to be safe. nothing sucks more than having friends and family in your car and getting into an accident cause your motor is ripping out driveshafts cause your engine mounts went bad cause your subframe was bent because the main frame had damage because yada yada yada.......you get the picture.
