some kinda super racing transmission.

Whats up Guys? It's been awhile.

So Recently I have replaced my whole transmission. Due to some problems. (2nd gear grind) and because I didn't want to open it up again.
After doing this swap once more I noticed something while driving.
I think the Junk yard kind of messed up here... They handed me off a vtec D17 transmission.

I rev at 4k about 120 km/h (canadian)
Redline to second powershift drops to about 5500RPM where is before it used to be
5th gear@60km/h is about 1,500 RPM

Does this sound right? or did I get some kind of power transmission here? i do notice thew gear ratios being together more

stop slammin gears and you wont have a 2nd gear grind again. READ your manual and shift accordingly unless of course you like replacing your tranny and um the trans in all d17 civics are the same vtec isn't a transmission type

I too thought the gear ratios were supposed to be different in the civics with vtec. Anyone else thought that?

Stop being a tool and handing out bad information. The second gear grind is most likely due to old fluid or a worn synchro ring. Try replacing the fluid. If that doesn't work, you will have to crack the case and take apart the countershaft. If your trans is from an 01-02 you will have to replace the whole second gear set along with the reverse counter gear and fork. Honda updated the gears and won't sell the older gears anymore.
The trans in an EX does have tighter gearing, first, fifth and the final drive are different. LINKY There are all of them.
