Well it depends what kind of TB you're talking about. Every car has one from factory and allows a certain amount of air in depending on Throttle postion. It is a circular plate inside of an cylinder. At idle, no throttle applied, the plate is closed with a small gap around it to let air in. At Wide Open Throttle, WOT, the plate is horizontal and allows as much air as the engine needs.

Now on to the question of ease to replace. It is fairly easy to do so but unless you are looking at a boosted car or some serious hp its unnessecary. They also make Individual Throttle Bodies, ITB, which are placed inline with each intake port on the head, it also replaces the need for a Intake Manifold. These are typically only found on engines where the intake part is in the front of the car, like the s2000's. Our cars, however, have a single TB coming from the intake inlet tube, bolts onto the manifold, and provides a fairly even amount of air to each intake port. Any other questions I'd be happy to answer.

even a slightly ported out oem tb will cause issues with the tps and engine light will come on. not worth messing with it.
