I am building my d17a2 and i dont wana mess with rebuilding the tranny and i was wondering if any one has successfully swaped a d16 tranny onto a d17a2 engine? and if so what all is needed to do so......

Nope, not possible. And why do you really need to? Is yours just toast or are you thinking it won't handle the power you are looking for? The d17 trans is actually pretty strong even with a decent turbo build.

i guess i was just wondering, my tranny has the 5th gear phsyncro out and was told u cant just replace the phsyncro u have to replace the gear as well and iv looked but cant really find parts and had some one tell me i could do the d16 tranny and i didnt think so but wanted to make sure....

You can too replace just the synchro. The problem is you have to find someone to sell you just the synchro. I had my second gear go out and it took me forever to find a shop to sell it to me. Honda wanted to sell me the whole second gear set for $280 but the synchro alone was $12.00. I got mine from whatever it takes transmission. They have some locations around the country or I can try and hook you up with them if you need me to.

What makes you think you cant use a d16 trans. Some one swapped a d17 block for a d16 block and made it work. I believe he didn't use a d17 trans. I remember SpeedFoos talking about the d16 trans as well.

Ok.. go ahead and do it. I don't remember the particulars but there was a huge discussion about this on, I wanna say, d-series that shot this idea down. I'll see if I can dig it up, but there were a few reasons that made it not possible.

im runnin around 400 hp runnin a d17 tranny from a dx and ive had no probs so far.....dunno if this helps any1 ?ing the strength of the d17 tranny

nice so u have about 400hp out of the d17? what set up did u run, jw if im on the right track lol ... and another question dose any one have any suggestions on which d17 tranny has the best gear ratio?

take it from me the dx has longer gears...i originally ran an ex tranny and when i blew it i used my dx that i had layn aroudn nd it was a good switch for me atleast.....wat do u mean by set up tho? i pieced 2gthr my own turbo kit and wat not.....wat do u wanna kno?....take it from em tho if ur plannin on buildin ur motor, see if u can afford a k20, trust me its much mre worth it, if i cld do it again id do a k20

lol well if i could go back i would have done the k20 as well, lol but set up wise like so far iv got forged rods and pistons with a 8.0-1 comp ratio, had it all balanced and blue printed, block decked and re-surfaced, also bored .20 over and a few other things and im getting ready to build my head, but im doing a t3/t4 custom set up...... but was wondering what u got lol

How exactly do you have 8.0:1 pistons, which ones are they and what diameter? And which rods are you using?

since when does wiseco make 8:1 pistons for the d17.. I thought they were 8.8:1.. and I didn't think pauter made anything for the d17...

I found a kit that had the rods pistons bearings and all the gaskets top to bottom, and a few other things and i spoke with one of the engineers and ordered them at 8to1 custom thats what he recamended and yes pauter rods came with the kit.

Hmm... thats pretty cool.. I wasn't doubting you, I mean most companies will make custom stuff for you, I just had never heard of that combo being used on the d17 before.

Yeah i know but the guy is an engineer and is an engine pro so im hoping he knows what he is talking about lol and it wasnt cheep so im hoping its worth it... we will have to wait and see though
