Just bought my fiance a 94 Acura Legend. Couple questions.

So just got a 94 Acura Legend. I have a couple questions about the car. First of all it calls for premium gas. However I believe that the previous owner was only using regular gas and he wasn't running into any problems. Should I continue using regular gas? Or should I use premium? Next I noticed a problem with the car nearly right away which I was aware of when I bought it. I (THINK) there is a problem with the thermostat. I noticed that the rad hose is actually bulging with pressure from the coolant on the top end of the motor. I am assuming that is because the water pump is flowing but thermostat is not opening to let coolant flow through entire system? Is this the problem? If so how hard will it be to fix myself? Last thing is that the ABS light keeps going on and off. What does this mean? I don't even know what the ABS light is for.

What do you guys think?

Not real sure about affects of different octanes but I think you can put premium in a car that runs on regular but I think it doesn't go the other way. Atleast as far as getting peak preformance from the car. But then again I could be wrong.

Post updated. Will likely be changing thermostat.. Idk abotu water pump yet. Might have been done already. I know the coolant has been flushed. Do you know if this car has a timing belt or chain lowlife? And if it is a belt do you know if the engine is interference?

the weird thing is the thermostat , radiator , hoses.waterpump, fluid flush.a new temperature sending unit, and new fans, and it still overheats when idling .evan the mechanic was completely stumped.this is a common problem with legends look it up.and the timeing belt is rubber also try the bleedr valve there mite be air in the system.

Re: Just bought my fiance a 94 Acura Legend. Couple questions.

No my friends g/f has a 89 civic and timing belt went on it. Non intereference so no damage to motor. Also I found out that it wasn't the thermostat. Just the upper rad hose is really thinned out so it had a huge bubble in it. Needs to be replaced thats all. But ill inspect the coolant and whatnot make sure its all in good standings. It appears to have had rad work done on it already. All rad hose clamps been replaced. I wanna find out how that timing belt is though... last thing I need would be for that to break..

Oh and one last question before I forget. This is my first automatic Honda. My mom was saying that the gears D3 is for in town driving when going speeds of about 60km/h (35mph) or less. And D4 is for highway and higher speeds. I noticed that when driving it in D3 that it idles high so i assumed that means more gas being used? What gear should I be using?
