OEM Clutch Durability

Okie, so in light of the fact that I just had to get a whole new clutch kit (bearings and all), I have this question in my mind; what kind of revs can the stock clutch on the 7th gens handle? When I spoke to the mechanics at the dealer, they told me that there was no way I could have damaged the clutch as bad as it was damaged in the 1 year I had it (they are basing this on the fact that I know them outside of the dealer and they know how I drive), so they blamed it on the car's previous owner. I still can't help but feel responsible as I know that when the road is dry, I shift at higher rpm (5000+). So my question is; can the stock clutch handle shifts at over 5000rpm but never exceeding 6750rpm even if the shifts are done properly? Some people say no, some say yes so I wanted to get a real answer. Thank you!

Re: OEM Clutch Durability

Well of course it can, stock clutches are made to at least take a shift at the cars max rev range.

I mean otherwise you wouldnt make the car rev that high.... anyway i was un-aware that rev's made that much difference to clutches as long as the shift is done properly.
I have 85k on my original clutch, and i shift and over 5k all the time (when not granny cruising and shifting at 2k every gear)
The only way to ruin a clutch is doing seriously high/regular clutch dumps, riding the clutch.. also sat holding the car on the "bite" point for periods of time wears away your clutch..
And coasting while in gear with foot on the clutch doesnt help either......

Hope that helped, dont think you should blame yourself btw, doesnt sound like you've done much wrong

I drove mine for 210K miles before it started to slip.

Re: OEM Clutch Durability

if you know how to drive a manual, it shouldnt have any problems at higher rpms which is what the car was made for. aside from abuse like stated above, normal driving should not be a problem. usually the only time you can really ruin a clutch fast is by dumping it while launching (rev up to 6k and then release the clutch pedal).

Re: OEM Clutch Durability

My 02 Civic LX has over 150,000 on the factory clutch, it doesn't slip at all yet. I've only gone hard on it a couple times for testing purposes (5,000rpm+), still no slipping. I generally shift between 3,500 and 4,500.
