Re: AIT sensor test
ummmmmmm well i couldnt find any info in the service book, but its basically a thermistor (a heat sensitive resistor). you can take it off the car and test the resistance with a multimeter when cold, then heat it up with a hair dryer and test resistance again. i dont know what the tolerance values are but you should get different readings between cold and hot at least. but if your engine light came on and the sensor is plugged in and installed properly, you just need to get a new sensor.
Re: AIT sensor test
ok,
I checked the wire voltage,
and it comes out at 5v.
The sensor itself reads about 2kOhms at room temp.
Resistance drops with heat.
My main problem is that my catalytic converter is getting clogged.
I assumed that was because the engine was running rich.
My first guess was the AIT and the MAP.
I'm also told the throttle position sensor might be faulty.
Any ideas on how to test the MAP ot TPS?
I checked in the Haynes and Chilton books,
but they just talk about how to change them,
not testing.

Re: AIT sensor test
Again, check all of the 5v references. All of those sensors run on a 5v reference. Then check the ground signal in the plug. Grab a fully functional obd2 scanner that will give you all the info about the car not just the cel codes. Check the tps at closed throttle and wot to see what the ecu sees at these two conditions. Turn the car off, map should be 0, turn it on, should be -xx vacuum.

Re: AIT sensor test
tps if its bad will make the rpm jump around alot from idle upto 1k rpms or more and back down. thats obvious. map sensor problem should trigger a check engine light if its bad. same with iat sensor. dont just guess at parts going bad, read the codes. many times a cat will clog for no reason at all. it already has a very fine mesh inside for air to flow thru.
Re: AIT sensor test
Something is cause int to clog.
I got it changed in December and it was showing the same symptoms again by February.
This leads me to believe the engine is running rich.
The codes I'm getting are
P0336 Crankshaft Position Sensor, intermittent interruption
P1362 No Signal In TDC 1 Sensor Circuit
P1361 Intermittent Interruption In TDC sensor circuit
P0113 Intake Air Temperature sensor circuit high voltage
P0420 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold
I suspect IAT error is because i had taken it out for testing.
No kidding on the catalyst error.
I guess that leaves the TDC sensor and the Crankshaft Position sensor.
Any idea if there's a way to test either of these?

Re: AIT sensor test
It just occurred to me,
I just bought a new timing belt because I was told they need to be changed every 90k miles.
I bought the car used with 94k, and it currently has 114k.
If the previous owner didn't change it,
and it's stretched or missing a tooth or something,
wouldn't that cause an error in those two sensors?
Or am I just grasping at straws here.

Re: AIT sensor test
it looks like a simple crankshaft sensor and tdc sensor thats gone bad. replace those two, and i bet problem solved. the catalyst code is for the secondary oxygen sensor which got fouled out from whatever problems you were having. this has nothing to do with the cat, altho it may suggest its gone bad again. when you do the timing belt, its easy to change those two sensors. now if you changed the timing belt and are having problems later as a result, its possible whoever did it damaged those sensors. if oyu started the car with the iat sensor removed, it would trigger the code too.
Re: AIT sensor test
I changed the TDC sensor a little over 10k miles ago.
It's worked fine ever since then.
Aside from what seems to be an unrelated error.
It's now throwing P4104,
But I'll start a new thread about that one.
Maybe you all already new this and I'm just a newb,
But Honda parts are freaking expensive.
