dumb question about exhaust..
dumb question about exhaust..
i know this is probably a dumb question, but does the pipe diameter make a difference in the sound of the exhaust? like does it sound any lower or higher pitched if i have stock piping or custom bent larger diameter piping? thanks.
Re: dumb question about exhaust..
Yea man, it makes the difference. Examples: If you had stock exhaust pipe and welded on a straight through muffler like a magnaflow or something it would sound like a high pitched/raspy weedeater on steroids sound. If you went for something larger in diameter for exhaust piping to match the muffler like lets say 2.25 or 2.5 it would gain a deeper throatier sound. However, past a certain extent like a 3in. exhaust you will start to loose the loudness of your exhaust due to loss in back pressure. You can also lose a few ponies if you are running an all natural setup due to loss in back pressure. Freeing up the exhaust is good but too much can be bad unless you have a turbo and the exhaust is getting forced out. Resonators within the exhaust piping also changes the exhaust note. Good example... 350z, great resonated sound. SRT4, un-resonated sound.
