D17a1 & D17a2 Differences

I have a 2004 DX that I'm interested in building but I first want to change over all the parts to make it into a d17a2 because I need VTEC. What are the differences between these two D series motors, and what would I need to completey swap my stock DX motor and transmission over to the VTEC d17a2s from the EXs. I've heard I will need an EX head but I'm sure thats not all I'd need. Any help and information would be great, thanks!

EX has slightly higher compression also has shorter gear ratios. In addition the header/downpipe/exhaust is different on the EX vs. the DX/LX. Those are some of the differences.

D17A2 gets more laydays than the A1. Girls love the VTAK. It's the only reason I'm still married.

Re: D17a1 & D17a2 Differences

Thats what I need dude, the VTAC. So I can boost it with the ALL STOCK HONDA CIVIC SI TURBOZ. ...those turboz make me emo...

So what kind of setup would I have with the A2 head on an A1 block? A bit more horsepower with longer gears and lower compression? And of course, the vtec. Anyone know how this setup handles turbos? I heard the A1 is good for that application.

I don't have lots of money but I think it would be relatively inexpensive and fun to play around with this and see what results I can get.

Anyone know the parts I'd need? Thanks!

Re: D17a1 & D17a2 Differences

If you don't have lots (relatively speaking) of money, then don't turbo it.

And it handles turbos like any other D17, the differences between the two motors are inconsequential enough that it doesn't matter. The VTEC head gets you more off-the-shelf cam options, but that's really it.
