Help picking In Car Speakers No Sub

Hey All!
So i have been searching for audio speakers for my 01 civic (coupe)
Of course they are 6 1/2 and 6x9's in the back. I visited best buy last night and saw the inifity Kappa's and cant get them off my mind. Do you think these are good speakers? I have also have heard about Focals and Rainbows....If you were in my shoes what speakers would or have you gone with? And what type of amp are you running to them?

Thanks Guys for the help.

I'm running a simple 4 channel setup. No need for 2 amps if your just running speakers without subs. Just a waste of usable space.

Re: Help picking In Car Speakers No Sub

i would have killed some one to get the kappa's. The crutchfield said they would not fit my 01 civic sedan dx, thus I went with polks. But from all the research I did I found them to be really good in 6.5" size.

thats because the people who buy them are stupid and dont get an amp, then complain that theres no bass. if you get kappas, you NEED an amp period. and not just a cheap lo power one. preferably, you need an amp that delivers around 3/4 of the speakers max rms wattage. the lowest id go is 1/2 the max rms rating. 4 channel amp will work fine, so you can power all four speakers off one amp. also make sure speakers are installed properly. if you just throw them in the car without any type of sound deadening or a good wire job, they wil sound like crap even with a good amp. the install is more important than the speakers. people are shocked when they listen to my stereo and i tell them its only the cheapest infinity speakers and a small amp giving them 1/2 of their max power. install is everything

I agree, there's no need to change speakers first if you don't invest the money to get an amp and/or sub. Then you can have quality music coming out of your speakers.

Re: Help picking In Car Speakers No Sub

Thanks Gearbox i like the info. I had best buy put in that silver looking sound stuff. Any who if the 6 -1/2 max rms is lower then the 6x9 should i then base my 1/2amp power on the smaller to prevent a blow out? Also what type of amp line do you prefer? I plan to 4 channel amp my system soon since i get my best performance at volume 20 to 23 out of 40....anything lower then 16 sounds just like my rotted out stock speakers.

Re: Help picking In Car Speakers No Sub

yeah try to get an amp that is 75% of the 6.5 inch speaker max rms. you dont wanna blow them up. as for wiring, 8 gauge is okay for smaller amps but you may want to use 4 gauge just to be sure the amp is getting the power it needs. i used monster cable for everything like rcas and speaker wire. if you have time, you can also upgrade the speaker wires that run from the actual speakers to the main harness behind the dash. most people just tap the original wires cause its easier, but if youre running more than 25wrms per channel, its a good thing to upgrade.
