Re: need help finding an intake

hahaha

anyway...

there are a few options for intakes, and it all depends on what you want to spend. the amount you spend on an aem intake (250-300 depending on model) and the power you get from it, compared to an 'ebay' intake (20-50)and the amount of power you get from that, there isnt much of a difference. our cars dont gain that much power from an intake alone so its up to you.

if you want the nice named brand intake which does make more power (barely), go with an aem v2, an injen, or either a k&n typhooon, or k&n fipk i think its called.

or you could go the route and get the expensive weapon-r intake which i might upgrade to. thats probably the best one in my opinion from what ive heard/read.

theres one other option you could choose and go with an intake called HPS. ive seen a few videos with them on youtube and they look pretty reliable and clean, and theyre priced pretty well. around 150 if you find one on ebay. i havent heard of anyone trying it out yet on this site but they look pretty nice as well.

Re: need help finding an intake

well using the search button would remedy this whole post. If you are set on buying an AEM V2 i own one and am very happy with it. There is a power increase but nothing too significant, the sound is quite loud for an intake at wot especially compared to the regular aem sri.

Re: need help finding an intake

I have a question. Currently I have a regular K&N Air filter besides the paper kind. I heard those kind will give you about 3-5 more horse power? Howmuch extra would I get from a cold air intake?

Re: need help finding an intake

K&N filter only traps 92% of dirt, so you will ruin your engine and maybe get 1hp more. a whole air intake might give you 2-3hp.

The most you should hope to see from a CAI is 5hp.

but think about this k&n filters are known to be great so if you buy an off brand what is it only going to trap 80% of dirt no matter what you do ur gonna get dirt better a little than a lot in this case

I think he's saying you should go with the paper kind, which I believe was stated in another of his posts to trap 98 or 99 % of the dirt.

Re: need help finding an intake

I have had the K&N drop in filter since brand new.

my car now has over 200,000 km on it..engine still runs strong...

I clean it every 20,000 km.

Power wise - I don't notice anything over stock.

Re: need help finding an intake

Plenty of better filters, my Weapon-r SW1 foam filters right up around 99%, so does AEM's new dryflow paper filter. they dumped all their old stock of cotton gauze cause they suck. And dealers are starting to learn this and may void warranty for using K&N. oem spec for filtration is 98% for a paper panel filter. AEM dryflow will beat this number and is reusable. far superior to K&N and comes in a variety of sizes. Advertising is not always right. go dig around and find some independent tests.
