solution to any problem on your 7thgen (may not always work)
after getting my new deck a few days ago, and finally after hours of frustration finishing installing it, i put everything back together. i turned my lights on to test all the illumination, climate control etc etc, and the 2nd and 3rd lights of the 3 buttons below the deck/pocket werent working. the recirculating air or whatever, and the a/c. only the defrost was working. i got so frustrated so i took it all out, went over the harnesses, disconnected everything and started messing with the back of the dash that the harnesses plug into, testing things etc etc etc. after another hour of wasted time, i was so mad that i said **** this and put it all back together and said ill worry about it another day.
i sat there for 5 minutes trying over and over switching lights on/off and checking fuses until i lost my temper and punched my dash 3 times. now the lights all work like brand new. from now on, any anytime anything doesnt work, maybe give it a boxing lesson or two..

Heh...I have the same problem. Except it's the air temp **** and the one above it. Also, the rear defog button (the power light for the defogger works, but the illumination does not). I went the '**** it' route and did not hit anything, and have just learned to live with it because I'm too lazy to take it apart. I'll give it a shot later. I agree with you though, 6 times out of 10 when you smash something, it works afterwards.

bad connections, loose strands on wires = ultimate failure. what did you make connections with? butt connectors, solder, tape, ghettofy....

oh trust me theres no bad connections. i used wire connectors that you crimp down. i took the two red power ignitions and the amp remote wire, and braided them three together. all other wires i placed together, twisted completely, placed in the wire connector and crimped it. after each two wires i crimped, i pulled pretty hard to make sure nothing would break, slide out, disconnect, etc. theres no way theres a problem. for the ground wire i put a terminal on the end of a 14 gauge piece, and connected it to a piece of unpainted metal with a metal nut and bolt. i dont mess around with wiring unless im going to do a good solid job.
the problem was only those two climate control buttons which had nothing to do with what i was working on. i think what i had done was pulled a bit too hard on the harness maybe when i was plugging it back in or maybe i bent a prong inside a little bit or something like that. it had to have been something small since when i punched it a few times it worked.

Well it doesnt sound like it was your problem, but hooking up the orange wires and orange/white wires could also cause it. Experienced many times.

Part number as listed in my DIY. I gave all the versions it's possible to be called when purchasing from a dealer or something.
Bulb, Neo-Wedge (A); Part number: 79609-S5A-003
use tools like this to not cause damage to your dash.

Nice fix! I'm going to try this next time I get a door ding or get backed into again. Does it provide the same results if you use your boot?

haha i think this is only in the case of electronics/mechanics.
***DISCLAIMER*** I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU USE THIS METHOD ON PANELS AND/OR BODY PARTS.
hahaha.
then again...if you give it a nice boot from a distance, and considering a boots momentum is > a slaps momentum, + the distance travelled = higher top end power on your boot, so maybe it will work?

Sometimes one or more of those lights will go out on mine, but more often it is my sunroof button's light. I've also found that hitting the dash around the lights will make them come back on. I actually took it apart (the sunroof one) and the bulb was the problem for me. It doesn't sit snugly enough in the plug. I tightened it and its been working for a while now. If it ever goes out again, I prob won't bother fixing it, tapping it every so often works just as well.
