Engine swap advice... please help!

I've had my 02 auto civic ex for a little less than a year. I'm now getting inspired to make the thing aquire some speed. Realizing that I don't own a stick (tear, tear), i've heard a lot about engine swaps.... specifically the k20 and b16. I'm not a car whizz... but am working on becoming one . What's the difference in these engines, how much is the overall cost for an engine swap like this, how much labor is involved, and most of all, IS IT WORTH IT?

Thanks ahead of time for your advice.

you cant use the b16 so only worry about the K20. Legally anyways.

Re: Engine swap advice... please help!

I thought we had the cost of a swap on one of the stickies? Oh yeah, it's on the 7th gen swap faq

https://www.civicforums.com/forums/7...-swap-faq.html

That should take care of your questions.

Re: Engine swap advice... please help!

if this is run by an sql db it probably needs some maintenance run.

Basically to really answer the question you have to use an OBDII engine the same year as yours or newer...or it might be as long as it is OBDII ....thats the sticking point.

Re: Engine swap advice... please help!

You legally cant put an engine thats older then the car your swapping it into.

You can only swap an engine that's at least from the same year car or higher, never lower. Legally.

EX: The B16 was never in a 01 or higher from the factory...

Re: Engine swap advice... please help!

^ did not know that. Doesnt matter for me anyhow, I just started saving for a 04-06 K20a2.

The search option only takes a min or two for me to load. There is tons of data for it to sift through from 2001-1008!

Re: Engine swap advice... please help!

Well the engine is rotated compared to the old B series, but it is still a good block. I used to think it looked funny, but it makes sense to have it mounted that way. Would a cop give you a ticket for having a newer engine in a older car or somthing?

Re: Engine swap advice... please help!

na but you would need a hookup to do inspections I am sure. You can do anything with enough money....I am talking from a legal/practical standpoint. If its a street car that needs to be legit, do a k swap frank. and go home happy.

if its already registered and you know some people it can be skirted, then just hope you can keep your hookup for inspections. Never do the work first, then try and register lol.

Re: Engine swap advice... please help!

Well first of all if your driving automatic and you dont want to be then sell your car and buy a stick. That right there is already a performance boost and your not paying extra for that. Then at that point I would consider a Crv 2.0 or a Accord 2.4 engine. Your probably looking at a Couple grand parts and labour included.

I'd sell it back for a stick in a heartbeat if I wouldn't be out the couple grand in interest i'm payin for the loan I had to take out.

Re: Engine swap advice... please help!

You could do a trade in. But honestly your losing a lot of your power from keeping it auto. If i were you. I would pay off the loan then do then do a trade in or something. If you do modifications to the car and its Auto your going to have a hell of a time trying to sell it. Nobody really wants an auto with mods.
