i have an 02 civic lx with a d17a1.ihave lots of mods.i have been looking for a chip but i am having no luck.can anyone help me find somthing good. i saw a couple of things but didnt know if it was legit.and it was on ebay.

Nothing is legit stop your search now. You want power go turbo, swap, or engine internals for naturally aspirated.

well i got a racing cam shaft, aem cold air,dc headers,and a custom strait pipe 2 1/4 exhaust,what more internals should i look at. bullfrog makes a head package that is d17a1 port and polished head, throtle body,racing cam.high compression valves and springs 1500$.supposed to be as good as k swap.

the silly racing chip will do more damage than good. If you want to tune the little d17, use k-pro. If not do a swap and then turbo charge it.

Kpro will definitely be your next best mod. It's hard to squeeze alot of power n/a with the stock ecu and piggyback.

what do youguyz think of the head package i talked about earlier. word is its just as good as k swap for a fraction of the cost and is strait with the stock ecu. k series is just too much pointless money for a daily driver and one night a week racer,when you can get the same horses out of the head package, you can turbo this head package too.google bullfrog cams and check it out.

id say yes on the pnp head but no on everything else. get crower cam, valve upgrade and k pro. pistons and rods are good too, also are bigger injectors and fuel pump. then youll get a nice gain.

it sounds ok...but i really dont think you can compare that package to a k-swap. of course theyre going to say it gives you the same thing but i doubt it does. your next best bet is like everyone else said...get k-pro or pick up an e-manage from somewhere with a good tune. you can usually get them at a reasonable price used, and maybe upgrade your injectors to rsx-s's.

if youre also really that set on keeping your d17 and not spending a fortune, you could do the lx-ex swap and v-tec it...that would probably help too. i know theres a diy on here for the swap if youre mechanically inclined.

does crower make the cam for the non v tec.i coudnt find it so i went with bullfrog.its cool.up there with moded b- 20s.but thanks for the info,it helped

No you need a custom regrind or swap the head for an EX to use the crower cam.

That package will never be as good as a Kswap... The k-series is a completely different motor and the power output is completely different.. the powerband.. everything is different.

Sure you might make some power but... I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT. You said you could run it off the stock ecu.. does that mean without a tune?

that being said, wtf is bullfrog and if they are so great and figured out that the D17 is actually teh shizzle, why hasn't anyone in the community heard of them before?

Gude Racing and Bullfrog team up to do head packages and other parts, that much is true. And Gude also works on the D17:

Looks like Roy Gude has made himself a splinter company with Bullfrog for the parts that he is making. I may drop them a line to see how much they charge to work a D17 head over.

i have a bullfrog cam.and yess you can run the head package on the stock ecu.i did go on hondata and kpro can be used on the non vtec.

hmm i remember someone posting a stay away from gude/bullfrog post like a year ago hmm let me see if i can find it. they bought the complete head package and it was complete **** leaked and lots of problems...
