Re: 10k oil change?

I change mine every 3000km. It's up to you but remember that your oil is the easiest and cheapest thing, maintenance wise, to change. Clean frsh oil+filter=happy car...

Re: 10k oil change?

Does the manual really say that? ...I think your reading it wrong.

I do it ever 3.5k miles as well. Unless you never break 25 and your coasting most of it, I dont see how your oil could stay clean for 10K, at 5k mine is way too dirty.

Re: 10k oil change?

NO! 10K is way too much IMO.

I change my oil every 3,000 on the dot, with Mobil-1 SYN.

Re: 10k oil change?

yes the manual (and the service book from honda) says 10k under normal conditions. but 95% of cars do not fall under the category of normal conditions. if you use regular oil, change it every 5k miles. you need to change the filter anyway at that time. now if you add some LC20 additive to the oil as specified, yes the oil itself will last 10k miles no problem, but you still need to swap filters at 5k miles cause it gets clogged. changing oil at 3k miles is waste of money.

Re: 10k oil change?

You can get away with it, but as stated before you must change the filter at least every 5000 miles.

Re: 10k oil change?

Yep. 10K miles just like it says in the manual. The newer Hondas with the Oil Life Monitors typically go 10K miles also before telling you to get an oil change. I'd trust the Honda engineers before listening to all the guys changing it way to often saying "cheap insurance" etc. etc., unless you want to waste money of course.

Still Amsoil is the best quality SYN oil out there.

Just wish I could get some 5W-20 locally.

Honda wants you to buy a new car. Sure, you can prolly make it 10k, but why be a cheap *** when your gonna have to shell out way more later when your car takes a ****. It's a stupid argument, you end up spending an extra $100-200 or so a year to change your oil more frequently. I'm sure we all have spent that money sometime in a year on something waaaaay more ridiculous. Those oil life monitors are gay anywho! Do you wait until your check engine light comes on before you do maintenance? I don't.

Re: 10k oil change?

3-4k is what a lot of guys on here do...i personally like to go around 4k, but then again most guys on here are pretty caring about their cars.

its more than safe to go every 5k, or even 6k imo, but 10 is way too much i think. the oil would come out as black as tar...its worth the extra 50ish$ to take it in every 5k.

Spare me the conspiracy theories and paranoia. If you change your oil per Honda's recommendations and Honda engines fails prematurely then who is going to buy another Honda?

If you're consistent with your reasoning, then why don't you change out all your fluids (transmission, coolant, power steering, brakes, etc.) way before recommended?

I do change my fluids religiously, why not? I change radiator fluid in the spring and fall and MTF every 5-6 oil changes. My brakes get bled all the time because they are wilwood 4 pistons and i'm trying to make sure they are always 100%. Hell i'd prolly do my PS too if I still had it

it was just a guess, I really have no idea how much extra it is. Just giving a comfortable margin. You use dino **** too? I found the t-rex is kinda like ams oil, I can leave that **** in forever and it's still good. Now I tell you what, if you can catch a terradactyl taking a leak and actually capture some.....
look out you'll never have to change your oil again.

Re: 10k oil change?

LOL...

I really can’t agree with the statements saying the older Hondas are better then the new ones... If you don’t spend money on any car it’s going to give you problems. the biggest thing that you have to do is NOT screw with and mod it... My bro just bought a used 01 civic about 4 months ago and it didn't have any work done to it other then brakes, tires and oil changes. The timing belt and everything else was original even at 125k miles and being 7 years old. To me that sounds pretty good. I talked to a person that had a 06 civic for sale with 148k miles just because I was curious. He told me he had no issues with it at all only routine maintenance. Now if only my GF will keep her 8thgen for that long lol. Also the Quality and materials in the 8thgen are SOOOOO much nicer then the 7th…
