Question about short shifters...
Alright so I know that short shifters are made to shorten up how far you actually have to shift, but will the height be changed at all? Also while were at it, what brands do you have experience with?
Re: Question about short shifters...
my experience....
~ yes, throw is reduced!
~ yes, it is lowered somewhat in height
~ once you get this installed opt for atleast a 340g shift **** or so, cuz even though the throw is reduced and youll find the gears faster (not trying to fish for them). Then with a stock shift **** will make it a bitch to shift right.
~ M-R short shifter kit i just had installed never came with gaskets of any sort but that was fixed using gasket maker, but then oil was splashing out the top side of the kit so a rubber boot from a balljoint was used (customized to fit) over the top end so oil would be re-directed back into the transcase had any oil splashed up under hard shifting.
good luck

Re: Question about short shifters...
If you get an expensive short shifter that includes a whole new shift lever then it will be shorter. If you use a cheaper short shift kit, like DC Sports, then it uses your stock shift lever, but relocates where the cable attaches, which shortens the throw, but leaves it at stock height.

Re: Question about short shifters...
Well a friend of mine has the **** and i was wondering if that weight was okay? Weight was mentioned as being a must for a shift **** when doing a short shifter above.

Re: Question about short shifters...
Alright, so just another question...How would cutting your shift rod down and welding the threaded part back on work? Would this work the same as a revo? I can get a another rod fairly cheap, so just seeing if that would work.
Re: Question about short shifters...
Installed the Revo SS kit on my 2001 Ex couple months back. Got the shifter bushings that Mr. Plenty got...good stuff! Don't know what the others are like, but the Revo is nice. Shifter height dropped @ 1-1.5 inches...much shorter, confident shifting. Also got the RSX 5spd shift ****...nice clean look, has some weight to it (less gear finding) and it's honda/acura equip!
