Re: HID Lights for 2002 Civic

wow they are expensive! try these instead. ive been really happy with the quality so far. but i would suggest just using their ballasts, and look for some oem philips d2s bulbs, then buy the h4 to d2s adapters and voila, you can use oem quality bulbs. every hid kit comes from china, so all you do by paying more is make the seller extra money.

Re: HID Lights for 2002 Civic

Thanks Gearbox. But the problem I have are the headlight housings themselves and not the halogen bulbs necessarily. I bought the head light housing for driver side, and it is really crappy. the beam is all over the place and I can't get it to spread evenly. So I decided to change the whole damn thing and if I am gonna spend money, might as well put in projector headlights. So I need HID project headlights with HID bulbs. I also read somewhere that I need projector housing that can take HID bulbs since they are longer than halogen.

Re: HID Lights for 2002 Civic

you can get some real hid projectors pretty cheap. if you wanna do it the right way, get some cheap projectors off ebay like e46 bmw or something similar and retrofit them into the stock housing or aftermarket. i just finished mine and it came out nice. search around cause there are alot of threads about it. and check hidplanet.com and retrofitsource.com too

Re: HID Lights for 2002 Civic

You mean you can actually use a D2S bulb in a housing that takes H4? I tried searching for the adaptor you mentioned but no success. Is it supposed to be like a ring thingy to be placed around the D2S so that it can be attached to the housing?

I checked out the HID kit from the link you gave and it's the seller yourhid that most people here have been talking about. Really cheap, but the ignitor is seperate though. And btw, you really make a retrofit sound so easy to do! I really wish for a beautiful cut-off beam as seen on real projectors but I just don't have the time and skills to do the retro neither are there any good aftermarket projectors that money can buy. Looks like I'm gonna be getting the kit from yourhid and stuff it in my 05 civic stock reflectors anyways.

Re: HID Lights for 2002 Civic

my ballast has the ignitor inside, and its pretty small. but yeah for h4 they make adapters for around $50 for the pair. it fits in the h4 hole and has a d2s round base in the back. they have these for h7 projectors too. but for 05, you just have to get the kit.

Re: HID Lights for 2002 Civic

Could yours be the 50W one like in HERE? This one is just a single unit without the seperate ignitor. Btw is there a big difference between a 35W power-saving ballast from a 50W one? Also, other than space issue, does a ballast with a seperate ignitor have much difference from a combo unit? My 05 Civic is damn tight at the back of the headlights and as it is I'm already struggling to find a mounting spot, so thought of going for the 50W one just simply because it's neater. But again, 50W vs 35W any big difference?

The adaptor sounds pretty cool, but dunno if they make adaptors for 9006 to D2S. Any idea where to get them?

Btw hope I'm not hijacking this thread too much...

Re: HID Lights for 2002 Civic

oh okay yeah mine is the 50w one, altho i dont recommend running that in a halogen reflector. the glare will be very bad. mine is inside e46 projectors. separate ignitor doesnt matter, it all works the same way. the bulbs that the kit comes with are not great, and i noticed very little difference between 35w and their 50w bulb (which i think is just a 35w bulb). also their 50w bulb gets very hot. they only make h4 and h7 adapters. just go with the 35w kit.

Re: HID Lights for 2002 Civic

ok so seems like there is no easy plug and play kinda way to put in HID lights...I just don't feel comfortable cutting holes and doing all the alignment etc...looks like lot of work and a weekend project...it may have to wait i guess.

Re: HID Lights for 2002 Civic

Stock reflector is precisely what I don't like. The light goes all over the place and there is no sharp cut off.

Re: HID Lights for 2002 Civic

well only option is hid projector retrofit then. you can do it in the ebay projector lamps they have for our cars too if you dont think you can make it look right in oem housing. but with the ebay projector lamp, you are limited by size. prolly the only projectors that will fit are valeo and e46 bosch.
