Snow+Ice+Pittsburgh Drivers

Okay, so last night I was picking up a friend from work, and on our way home, hit ice. The car did about a 160, and ended up 3/4 into the parking lane on the right. As soon as we came to a stop, and had a chance to look at each other and go whew, boom, another car hit me right in front of the rear passenger tire. Now, no one was hurt, and big dent really isn't so bad, however, the passenger side-impact airbag went off, and well, there goes another couple hundred. Essentially, I am wondering if any of you have recommendations on good places to get replacement airbags, and have them installed, so that it is more or less back to how it was. I live in Steubenville, but travel to Columbus, and Pittsburgh on a regular basis, so pretty much anywhere there, and anywhere in between works for me. As for the dent, I will be having a friend of mine work on that.

Re: Snow+Ice+Pittsburgh Drivers

Probably just better go back to the dealer. Replacing the airbag will trip the SRS light (if it hasn't already from the crash). The dealer can reset the light and make sure that the system is functioning normally. Most shops around here don't have the capability to diagnose an SRS light so if there is anything beyond the reset that needs to be done (ie. bad sensor) the dealer will have to look at it anyways.

There is a chance that it will need a new air bag sensor as well. I'm not sure if they work correctly after they have been tripped?

Yeah, the light did trip, but I don't know whether the sensors can be reused.

Yeah, there is DIY reset of the SRS light on here, but if the sensor is failed a reset isn't going to work, the light is just going to come back on.

Unless you can find someone that has the ability to diagnose the SRS light, I would just head to the dealership and make sure it's done correctly.

Note: The airbags will not deploy under any circumstance if that SRS light is on. Just an FYI.

oh, I guess, I will be taking it to the dealership over the weekend then. I didn't realize that they wouldn't deploy if it wasn't reset. Thanks.

Well, working on the whole insurance thing. The problem, is I just wanted to get it fixed ASAP, considering the airbags don't work. The problem, is I don't know how long the insurance is going to take.

Re: Snow+Ice+Pittsburgh Drivers

Insurance took me as short as 1 week to send me a check... this was August... Now that I think about it, I still need to cash that check.

Anywho, take it to the dealer so that they can reset everything and install the bags while you are there. It's just less hassle that way.
