Factory Bass Blocker Question. Wire Techs

After doing some research, I found that my 2002 Civic EX (coupe) has factory bass blockers on the tweeters? Where exactly are they located? Reason being, I ordered new alpine component speakers (I'll make them fit). Any recommendations for wiring? I have to wire up a crossover, but I need to know the door wiring set up to save me some time. Door diagram?

Also, has anyone had any experience with the alpine SPR-17S kit (Front). Do you know of any purchasable brackets I can buy to keep away from custom fabrication on the doors?

Current Set Up -
Alpine head unit (love it)
Factory (Shot) speakers all the way around
2002 Civic Ex 2 Door

Thanks,
Gene

Re: Factory Bass Blocker Question. Wire Techs

I actually have the SPR-17C kit in my door. Its a bit different, but I imagine the speaker depth is the same. It actually came with .75" brackets in the box that bolted right up to my car. idk if its supposed to or not though. haha but it was a PERFECT fit. Had a little trouble getting the terminals AND magnet in, so on the passegner side, we dremeled a litt out. I wish I hadnt. It rattles at high volume since the bracket has less surface area mounting. On the driver side, with a litle bit of wiggling and coercsion(?), it went in. The other hard part was wiring speaker wire from the amp through the door molex. Ive heard you can amp factory wiring. Do That.
and dont forget to amp them!

o and about the tweeters, just replace them. Id use some 3M double sided tape to mount the crossovers on the sheet metal, and just run your tweeters from that. itll serve as a bass blocker for you perfectly. just tune it right. tune it before you seal up the door.

Will the Alpine head unit be enough power to work these speakers, or do I need to wire in an amp?

Re: Factory Bass Blocker Question. Wire Techs

yeah component speakers come as a woofer and tweeter that run off the same crossover. so they will work together and can be wired as a single speaker. stock tweeter prolly has a small crossover in the door panel. but you wont be using it anyway so take it off and throw away.

Re: Factory Bass Blocker Question. Wire Techs

YOU NEED TO AMP COMPONENTS! without, it will be trash.

on a second note, you can use stock wiring only if you amp the stock wiring. If not, run your own amplified wires.

Re: Factory Bass Blocker Question. Wire Techs

im confused. I plan on doing the samething but what do you mean by amp the stock wiring? like in the back of the deck, splice the speaker wires there and run from there to the amp? or run new wires directly to each speaker.. can you clarify please? Also is there a diy in removing all speakers? is there a difference in 02 and 04?

don't mean to jack your thread but i plan on getting some type r components as well... haven't gotten the guts to get the type X components... but it would match my sub =D

Ok, if you want something done right you have to do it yourself. For everyone out there! You can run component speakers just fine as long as your pushing more then 20 watts rms power from your headunit (I have Alpine 6/9 rear and component front W/ alpine unit) (Fresh hook Up! And... Alpine fits like a stock set up). Sounds perfect! Also, there is a factory bass blocker on the tweater (EX coupe model). I will Email you a wire diagram if you like. You can bypass this by just running the speaker wire from the bass speaker directly to the crossover, then to the tweeter.

Thanks for your take everyone.

Almost the same car.

Just run new wires! I had an amp that burned the plastic on a 4g wire (Profile 2000 watt amp, Street wires 4g kit). Don't run more then 50 watts through those skinny wires its a fire hazard.

Re: Factory Bass Blocker Question. Wire Techs

amping the stock wires = running amplified speaker wire to the back of the headunity, and amp those wires that go like Front Left (-) AND Front Left (+). just match and go. but i ran my own wires, so i cant vouch for the safety of amping stock wires. im running 70rms to my coaxials. i wish i had components at times.

edit: and i really dunno why you need a wiring diagram. all it is is match n go. If your not amplifing, (you really should amplify) goto crutchfield and get an adapter for the stock speaker wire harness to the aftermarket. if you are amping (recommended) you go from + and - of SPEAKER 1 on the amp and match the + and - to the SPEAKER 1 in the door. really not that difficult either way.

yeah its safer to run new wires if you have a good amp. those stocks are not very thick because they were only made for 10w rms
