oil change issue

Ok,, i've done enough oil changes in my time to fill a few 55 gallon drums...I changed the oil in my daughters 01 EX this past weekend and when i spun the oil filter off i expected to have your typical oil mess running down my arm a little dripping onto the floor/catch pan etc....but no oil ran from the oil filter. Interesting,,,,,,there was oil in the filter, just not enough to run out. the car sat a few hours before i began the oil change. Anyone else notice this when they do thier oil changes????

Re: oil change issue

Yup thats why I always try to do oil changes cold... NO MESS! Its so much better even if its supposedly not as good for the engine. I hate having all that oil run down the back of the block and onto my exhaust.

i have run into it too but your way better off doing the oil change when the motor is hot that way more of the dirty oil drains out leaving more room for the new clean oil

Re: oil change issue

oil drains alot easier when hot plus I get pleasure as the hot oil runs down my skin.

Re: oil change issue

I cant imagine it being that much better for the engine doing a hot oil change. And I dont think you get much more oil out at all but it may take just a bit longer for it to drain. If anything you may get more cold because more has drained down into the pan from the head.
