Someone broke into my car - glass replacement
Someone broke into my car this morning, probably between 8am and 10am (broad daylight on a crowded street in Boston (Mass Ave)). I'm guessing they were looking for my GPS because I left the suction cup holder on the winshield (I always take the GPS unit with me whenever I leave the car, but leave the holder attached to the winshield).
Anyway, they broke that small triangular piece of glass on the rear passenger side. Apparently its called the "vent glass." Approximately how much should this cost to replace? I got a couple of quotes, and they're all around $250.00. This seems ridiculous for such a small piece of glass. I had my front windshield replaced recently, and it was the same cost ($250). How can a front windshield and a small little piece of "vent glass" cost the same to replace?
Thanks

Nice find, double check to make sure thats the right side. just match the stickers up on your other side to be sure.

I replaced the glass. Very easy job, takes about 30 min tops, and less if you know what you're doing. First, roll down the adjacent rear window as far as it goes. Peel back the rubber above that pillar/bar that divides the two back windows. Unscrew that one screw that holds the bar in place. Remove the rubber weatherstripping that used to hold your vent window in place. Clean out all the little pieces of glass that may still be attached. Put the new piece of glass in the old rubber weatherstripping. Here comes the hard part...slide the new glass + old weatherstripping back in. It takes a little persuasion. Put the screw that holds the bar/divider in place and push back any weatherstripping you peeled back. You're done.

I live in Boston and I belive you need to have glass insurance on your car if you insure it in MASS. You should have gone through your insurance...No change and no surcharges.
I had my windshield and rear glass replaced under the insurance. Just call them next time and they will give you the info.
