Re: Turbo Or I,h,e With Cam

Ok, before you post, search. There is a WHOLE SECTION on forced induction. I will tell you, going NA on these cars will get you nowhere. Your only hope is to go turbo or maybe nitrous. I/H/E will make more noise than power with these cars.

Re: Turbo Or I,h,e With Cam

I/H/E + cam and fuel management will make the car more fun but you'll still be slow. Turbo is the way to go if you want power out of our engine. I might be selling my stage 2 cam soon if you're interested. I had to take it out for inspection purposes and don't feel like spending more money to put it back right now.

Re: Turbo Or I,h,e With Cam

i/h/e/cam=125-130whp = $1800

dezod turbo kit= 250 hp = $4000 or so

BUT

i/h/e/cam=125-130whp = $1800 (x2 engines in em2)
= 260 whp at $3600

how we would put two d17s in the chassis of our cars..or any car..is beyond me but i felt like doing the math and it made sense at the time. im going to go watch more mtv.. see ya IBTL!

Re: Turbo Or I,h,e With Cam

You can make more power with ems or K Pro but then you have too add another 1k and high compression pistons will cost another 500 bucks give or take plus the labour to install it.

He is greatly exaggerating that price for the turbo to make that much power. To make 260hp you''ll need about 5-6K at least. A basic dezod kit with stock internals will make 175whp-210whp depending on the tune and injectors you decide to use. To make 230whp+ you will need low compression pistons and rods to be able to handle 10+ pounds safely. And a stand alone ems will be needed so I'm just trying to give you some realistic numbers. Ideally though turbo is the way to go for the d17.

High comp slugs will run you about 500, then the rods another 700... another 300 in machining, 200 in bearings, and 700 in other **** from honda, all to make MAYBE... 160 to the wheels. When at the same time, you coulda boosted it.
There is only one good reason to keep a D series NA.... when race rules prohibit anything else.

if u do go turbo, dont just go buy any turbo kit out there...do the research. and ask plenty of questions when u got them.

Yep yep.. I'm buying that D17A2 that's was for sale, dropping that in to make my car happy, then building up/turbo prepping my old engine for boost. My mistake was buying an SF kit, slapping it on, figuring I could get away without a tune because I was gonna be out to sea for a while, then finally getting tuned using a VAFC-II

Re: Turbo Or I,h,e With Cam

my mistake was buying a TSI turbo kit...spent so much money i could have bought 2 dezod turbo kits...but now, im doing it right, spare block bought, and all my internals start, and machining today. so im very happy, the right way is being done..
