Please Help...

Right peeps,
I have an 01 Civic Coupe. 47k on the clock. Its in good condition BUT...

My mate had the same car before me and he said if I want to make it sound a little more agressive, take the air intake box off. ( Not the filter, just the box located on the front left of the engine ) He ran his car like this and it was great.

So...a few months ago I did the same. It was fine. Sounded nice when I put my foot down. Took it down to my local Honda dealer and he said, fair enough, it should be okay like that, no probs.

BUT, I was out in my car the last few days and when I am in fith aproaching 90ishpmh the engine started to struggle. Almost like it was about to cut out despite only being around 4/5k rpm?????!!!???

Is my problem related to the air intake box? I dont think it is, but what else could it be? Its due a service anyway but what else could cuase this? Its fine in the lower gears. No power loss or anything like that.

Please help me out here...

Re: Please Help...

Thats probably your engines way of saying do it the right way. Don't rig things when their is a cost effective way to fix it the right way to make it aggressive sounding. That box before the air filter box is just a sound resonator. It shouldn't effect the performance unless your air filter is caked with road grime. Put on a short Ram or a cold air intake and enjoy. Is it a stick or automatic?

Its a manual. I thought, like you say, maybe its clogged up with crap but its far too high up in the engine bay to get crap in so I am ruling that one out for now...

Parts are alot harder to get hold of in the uk. Its a pretty rare car over here. Its all older model VTI's over here.

Re: Please Help...

maybe u have like a little uk animal crawling in the air box.. and when u rev it up to 4/5k rpms he gets angry and shoots himself down by the thottle body for u to cut it out............................................... .

anyway no i dont think that has anything to do with the air box being removed. take it to ur honda dealership and ask them about it. if they have that over there
