Decided to go NA...Need Some Advice
Decided to go NA...Need Some Advice
Well after much deliberation and thinking I've decided to take my D17A2 and turn it into a NA monster. However, I'm very much an rookie when it comes to motor building.
So heres the deal, so far I've decided that I need to get at least:
1. Crower Cam Stage 2 or 3
2. Crower Valve Train Upgrade
3. EMS
4. Pistons to achieve high compression
5. Head Studs for High Compression
6. Hp Racing Headers and Exhaust(any brand)
7. Port and Polished Head
I did some reading and discovered that I need to achieve a high compression for the engine to be a high reving NA monster. I know I need pistons and head studs, but I'm not exactly sure where to begin looking for the parts that I need. I also know that I need head studs to deal with the pressure, will an oem head gasket suffice for the pressure?
Is there anything else I need to get the most out of this motor?
I figure if I'm going to be "dumb" and try to go NA I might as well be safe and put everything I need to fully tune this motor to its max. Any suggestions on parts that will aid my goal of building a D17A2 monster would help.
I don't plan on buying all of this at one time, I'm far from rich. I plan on working a lot over the summer in my free time and purchasing each part one by one. First up would be the headers and exhaust.
I've helped a buddy change a head gasket on his integra, so I have an idea of how to install new valve train and cams. I've never installed pistons let alone removed them, so it will be a learning process. But I have lots of friends with experience and who would be more than willing to help. If you guys can post any information regarding installation of pistons and such I would be grateful. I want to read up on everything before I go near the motor.
Please don't flame me for trying to go NA. If I don't reach my goal of 150whp its ok. No one has really go full NA with this motor and I figured I might as well try. I don't like the idea of swapping or turbo, and why not try this NA project. If I can get 150whp I'd be completely happy, especially if it revs near 8000+.
As for tuning, I live in socal. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find someone reputable to help me tune this.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: Decided to go NA...Need Some Advice
this is the first time I have ever read that tamparacing. I have a few questions concering those statements. How much actually applies to the D17a2. So if anyone has answers to my following questions I would be grateful, because I have been kicking around what else to do to the car.
1. Will The Integra Type R (ITR) CAI will fit on Civics and is 3”?
2. will (Throttle Body) Except for the ITR, which is 62mm, I know it says about port matching, but what about the OBX D17 Intake Manifold?
3. Changing from electronic fuel injection (EFI) to carburetors(How would you do that and what is the point)?
4. The Y8 is cheap and is the thinnest metal OEM head gasket that you can get. (Could you put that on with no modification)?
5. d16a6= 11.08: 1 compression, d16z6= 12.03: 1 compression, d16y8= 12.61: 1 compression (What about these pistons? which is better or possible)?
6. Water pump, Thermostat (What campanies make this for our cars)?
7. Del Sol Radiator, will it fit?
8. GSR or Type R Fuel Pump and Bigger Injectors for N/A purposes/companies names.?
-I wasn't sure if these comments from another site applies to the D17a2-I didn't think i need to put question mark with all my comments

Re: Decided to go NA...Need Some Advice
u havnt asked any questions dude......and for the first guy..i suggest if ur new to this and motor building and the most uve done is change a gasket, then stay away from ur everyday driver. please...PLEASE go get a spare at a junk yard. and please read some more and do alot more research. going to sites and picking up what SOUNDS best never works. search on these forums and about 9 others for answers and reviews on what works best and what doesnt.
