Dash lights too dim during the daylight
This is a 2006 Civic. Dad is 84 and the odometer and fuel display are digital but are not bright enough during the day. The brightness is all the way up.
Can it be fixed to have a brighter display? New bulbs?
Thanks for any help.

We had a customer who had taped a cardboard "hood" over the gauge pod to shield it from sunlight a little more....

Wow, ezone. That’s about what it needs-a cover to shade the light. It really is crazy how dim they really are. It’s not my Civic, but I’ve been in it many times. I swear the odometer was brighter at one time. You don’t suppose it’s the battery or alternator or something like that.

Are you positive they are adjusted as high as they will go? Set with headlights ON, and set again with headlights OFF?
Compare to another identical car?
Are the daily drives done with the sun shining right on the gauges? That's the only time I've really ever noticed it being difficult to see them.
Not if you aren't having to jump start it or have been killing batteries.

According to the wiring diagrams, every light in the gauge pods is LED....so really not user serviceable.

Yea, the brightness is up all the way. I think it’s probably just the way they are. In a side note, we live in Pittsburgh and it’s cloudy a LOT. We’ve had about 3 weeks of solid sun and it’s probably more noticeable. It was cloudy today and I saw them and they seemed much easier to see.
Too o bad they didn’t make them adjust to the brightness of the sun. But that would be dreaming.
