Where I'm at...

I've just put 62,000 miles on my 2007 automatic civic. It'd be a lot less, but my job now has me putting 17,000 a year on my baby.

I've been religious about changing the oil and rotating the tires, however I've gotten conflicting statements about fuel pump and transmission service.

What else should I REALLY get done at 62,000?

62K is not a huge amount for a 6 year car. In fact, it's quite low.
That's only about 10K/yr.

There's nothing much you need to have done at this time, probably just your fluids and spark plugs.
Transmission fluid, Radiator fluid, Power Steering fluid, Brake flush.
I would inspect your brakes and rotors while down there.

Well, brakes actually replaced 10k miles ago. So I guess it's down to the tranny fluid, radiator fluid, and power steering fluid... Should I have a Honda dealer do this work, or can I use a non certified repair shop?

You can do all of those, in the comfort of your garage.

If you can do an oil change yourself, there's not much more to doing fluid changes

Good point. I did think I wasn't supposed to get the spark plugs changed until 100k miles. Is this incorrect?

I would recommend them to be done every 40~50K.
But that's entirely up to you.

I would at least remove them and inspect them for abnormal wear.

You could clean up the fuel system with a bottle of seafoam, but that's up to you.

ATF every 30k max. I would do it more often in my own. (Experience makes me recommend far more than the manual or maint minder says.)
ATF DW-1 from Honda.
Drain and fill, about 3 quarts at a time.

The rest of the maintenances you can just do as the maint minder tells you (except for time-based services). See the owners manual.


Plugs, 100k or more. (They really will go 200k or more without a problem unless the engine fouls them.)

Coolant at 5 years, long life blue from Honda
Brake fluid at 3 years, DOT 3

When the air filter gets dirty, change the cabin filter too.


TOP TIER GAS should completely eliminate the need for fuel system additives.

Owners manual says 100K for ATF change for 7th gen
I changed mine out at 40K and it was dirty as hell.
8th gens seem to have TCC shudder problems when neglected (so do many of their other cars). Experience says this can be delayed or eliminated with more frequent service.

I do my moms ATF every other oil change. She has an 02 Accord, it is known for differential bearing problems. So far, so good.

Did the ATF in my 12 Civic along with its 5000 mile oil change.

Performed oil change, ATF fluid change, and changed spark plugs. Anything else at 62,000? Is a coolant fluid change necessary?never had one done....

Not absolutely necessary.
But recommended.

When I did it, I just drained the stuff in the rad, I didn't even drain the block.
The rad is pretty easy, just a little plastic tab under the front bumper.
Drain and fill.

check and replace your filters if necessary.

also even though your mileage is low check for # of years in the maintenance minder (i.e timing belt is every 7 years on mine)

Much easier than every 2 years in the olden days of conventional coolants.

If you drain from the radiator only, it will probably be right around one gallon by the time you top up the reservoir bottle.


You could get 2 gallons to be safe, but I don't think you'll need the second at all unless you try to drain the engine block too.
But you'd have it to top off the reservoir before oil changes so you KNOW what is in it is right.


I don't really pay attention because I don't have to buy the stuff ahead of time like you guys do, and there are always several partial jugs laying around the shop because we top off fluids during the oil changes.
