Just picked up a brand new 09 civic.. Waxing?

Hey everyone, I am new to the forums, not new to the Civic though, drove a 99 si for the last year, but just upgraded to the 2009 LX (Canada)

Here is my question. The car was built on Aug 31st of this year, and I picked it up on the 4th. So it wasn't sitting out or anything very long, in fact it was inside most of the time as they put on the skirt kit, fog lights etc.

Should I wax it right away? or should it be good as it is from the factory? Should I just wait a few months? or should I try and get on that ASAP?

Thanks very much!

wax it asap. they dont come waxed from the factory so its best to protect it with wax as soon as you get it. it also takes months for the car to get from the factory to the dealer after being painted anyways, so everything that needs to be cured has already happened. but almost all factory finish are baked on and cured as soon as the baking cycle ends.

Hah well not always does it take months, I live about 20 kms north of the Factory in Alliston Ontario where it was built, so it was pretty quick for me.

I will wax it asap.

Kinda sucks in this weather though, its so hot!

Recommendations for wax? I did get some Armor all stuff that you put on as your are drying it.. or is it better off to get the paste type stuff and use that instead?

Correct ... WAX it and don't use a buffer, do it all by hand so you don't get any swirls. Make sure you do it in the shade and the metal isn't hot to the touch.

I think what i'll do is wash it outside, bring it inside to my garage where its nice and cool and shaded, let the car cool down a bit, then wax.

You will get 1000 diff type of waxes here but I like Rejex paint sealant - not a wax - two coats 12 hours apart lasts 8 -12 months in the hot Florida sun. I used it on my new Civic picked up yesterday and have used it for years on boats and cars.

The dealer actually gave me a paint sealer in a honda car kit, it looks like its a cream of some sort, so should I go with that instead of the wax?

I would not - most free dealer supplied stuff is snake oil...Rejex is made by a reputable company that backs it up. Primarily used in Aviation. www.rejex.com

Just go with a Meiguars product and you'll be OK

i like 3M performance finish wax followed by a sealer like mothers reflections top coat. really makes the car shine and ive tried a ton of different wax.
