HID Conversion questions...

i did a search but couldnt find a solid answer...

1. what is the best kit for an 8th gen civic... i had an S2k and 03 M3 before law school so i really miss the HID... and i think its time i changed my lights...

2. through the search i saw some posts about a "retro-fit"... but couldnt ever find what that meant exactly...

3. i know the s2k and M3 both had projector headlights and i remember both had a very straight cut off line for the HID... i notice that my civic has a similar cut off line with the normal halogen bulbs... if i get an HID conversion kit, will i get the same clean cut off line that im used to? even without projector headlights?

any help is appreciated guys... i miss the other 2 rides but i gotta say as a DD the civic wins hands down... i just want to make it nicer where honda left it lacking... thanks in advance guys!!

Re: HID Conversion questions...

1) It seems one of the best kits, believe it or not, is the K-Light kit which can be found on ebay. The seller is kassabian9898. A lot of people have had great success with this kit. My friend has had his kit for probably 2 years and I've had my kit for a year to a year and a half and it still works great. And the price rocks. Infact, I still use the ballasts on my retro, which brings me to the next question.

2) A retro is when you cut up your headlights and install projectors from an s2k or m3 or whatever. The most common retro is with TSX projectors, and you see some s2k's along with some other set ups thrown in there.

3) The HID kit won't have the sharp cutoff that a projector does. IMO the 8th gen civics can handle a h.i.d. without having tons of glare. Some people say they are really bad, but they seem to be the people who have spent $1k on a retro and are trying to justify it. I had my pnp for a year and never had anybody flash their highs at me.

Re: HID Conversion questions...

As for HID retrofits, you should check out HIDPLANET.com, retrofitsource and others. You'll be surprised with the output and since you had the s2k, you'll probably want to get a set of AP1 projectors (one of the best projectors in terms of output and wideness of projection).

Re: HID Conversion questions...

awesome posts guys, very informative and exactly the answers i was looking for...

i kinda figured a retro fit meant getting projectors in there.. next question and maybe too early since i havent checked out the sites yet (wanted to thank you guys first)

as for a retro with say s2k projectors, do these sites sell the entire headlight built (the retro headlight) or the parts for me to do it myself??? now im gonna check out those sites!!!

Re: HID Conversion questions...

I think those sites listed are mostly for buying parts and DIY tips. Good stuff though, for sure.

I think for actually having a retro built, I know http://www.customlightz.com/ does them. I'd say they've done the bulk of 8th gen retros I've seen, but looking at the home page theres some sorta business nonsense and it says to check out www.hidillusionz.com.

http://lightwerkz.net/ also does retros.

Re: HID Conversion questions...

get some s2000 projectors and put them in your civic. they are the brightest projector out there. they usually sell for around $300 a pair on ebay and hidplanet.com forums.
