Air Bag deployment
Air Bag deployment
Is it true that if the Air Bags deploy, whether side or front, they will deemed the car a total loss? I was told by someone that even if a small fender bender deploys the Bags, that any Insurance company will consider the car a total loss. Is that a true statement?

Re: Air Bag deployment
No. That is a stupid statement. If the damage is less than the car is worth (the frame is unharmed) it is apparently not a total loss. Airbags only cost a couple hundred dollars.
Re: Air Bag deployment
yea that statement is false. even though airbags do cost more then a few hundred dollars DEPENDING ON VEHICLE, the total value of the wreck must exceed anywhere from 70-85 percent of the value of the vehicle which is deemed by your insurance company. the percent is chosen by ur insurance some are higher some are lower. i work for a body shop so ive learned alil of hte insurance side. not a knowit all but can repeat what iwas told.

Re: Air Bag deployment
i think people believe that because usually airbag deployment involves ALOT of front end damage that can easily put the total around 9-10k. it usually takes a good hit to the front to make them blow.

Thanks all for your responses. It just didn't make sense to me when this gal told me this, but she said that her Insurance agent mentioned it to her. I don't know who she is insured with, but it just didn't sound right. Sorry to ask such a dumb question. You all have a good holiday. Thanks again.
