Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
swap rule of thumb. never put an older engine into a newer car. newer engine into an older car is ok. but. i think your only bet is a k20. and the mounts and stuff have to be fabbed because they look very diffrent.
and usually dohc heads dont match sohc.

Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
now that you mention it,...crap! its the law that you cannot put an old
engine into a newer car. hmmm?
yea, maybe....

Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
**** man your prob going some custom **** here.... imo if i really wanted to swap so bad. i would stick to what has been done... and honestly in a brand new car like this its worth it to trade it in for a si or somehitng....
Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
yea...maybe im jumping the gun here?
i dunno, wait till someones done something to the R-series like some screwed up head job/swap, engine swap, etc??
let someone else be the guinea pig?
but as for trading my civic in....cant! too much into it already!!
we'll see i guess.....

Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
If you just got it and your looking for a swap, just trade it man, you might loose some money on the deal, but hopefully you can swap whatever mods you got on/in it to the other car, if your planing on going like Ex to Si. I say if you wanna swap now, you'll wanna swap later.

Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
true story.. the car just came out. the si is the same body style so all your doing is making it a si replica lol i wouldn't waist money in swapping something like that. its like buying a v6 mustang and dropping a v8 in it. just buy the v8 (not that i ever would buy a mustang lol)
Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
i never wanted the kseries in the first place, i want boost on the R but that aint anytime soon?
and the Si in Canada dont have this!

Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
eh why dont you want k20 its a great motor. the r's are so so so so so so so ****in slow and torqueless. my dad has a 5sp and i wanna rip my hair out because it has no response and i cant pass anyone on the highway... but do what you want.
Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
i find this odd...
everyone seems to slam the R18 into the ground, although i have some mods to gain some HP such as 2.25" full exhaust, axle back, Downpipe, CAI, etc..
My car actually doesnt do so bad man!
Shift points are at 6800RPM, it does launch pretty nicely considering and sounds pretty good too, can even hear the iVTEC engage!
if i ever get out of this faking dungeon! (my house) maybe my buddie and i can get together so he can do me up a Vid of this civic.

Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
if ur gonna swap anything into that car it shud be a k20z3... which is in the si... the r18 and k20 both fit in the same car just different trims of it... is the k20 not good enough?
Better yet just trade it in for a si
Or if u wanna keep the r18 ive seen some people on www.8thcivic.com (which is usually where i am now cause of the 7thgen to civicforum switch) pushing 220's with this kit: http://www.ajperformance.com/product...ucts_id=137963

Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
I think its a rule anything less then and Si <motor> must be bashed because it can never equal what the Si has......At least thats what they think there are Ex's out there with boost already pushing 190hp just havent got the tuning down im thinking with the proper tuning the ex will have its day and suprise a few stock Si's Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
rumor is....
R18 should have between 250-400 HP (400HP is a full build kit) Supercharger sometime in hopefully the next year or more....
This is with intercooler i believe, but for 400HP....WOW!! not bad for a so-called E-iVTEC

i used to have a 99 integra Gsr built up nice. and i laugh at people with these motors that say i hear vtec kick.... its in your head. my car had real vtec and once i hit it. you KNOW you hit vtec. people outside knew it too. and to this day the b18c is my favorite motor. my friend has a type s now. yea its great and quick but it still doesn't feel like a B18 does. for some reason maybe its just me but thats how i feel.

Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
how much of what you've got on your ex coupe would fit on an si coupe?? at least the 8th gen si and ex are the same body, compared to the 7th gens, coupe vs hatch. the problem you have is that you have a relatively new car, with a relatively new motor. look at the aftermarket support for the 7th gen, vs previous gens. it just takes a while for mod parts to come out. being one of the first to do stuff is expensive, and requires a lot of cash.. i'm not going to tell you what to do, but i think were i in this situation, i'd seriously consider a trade, or you could keep what you have as a dd, and get a project car. if you have the money, by all means, start having **** made, or make it yourself. build your own turbo kit. hell, if you get the specs down, you may be able to make money on this. who knows.
Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
i dont know what to do anymore....the thought of giving this car away when i have so much into it (i mean i could strip some off of it) then turn around to owe money elsewhere....hmmm?
or wait it out and spend on this civic? its frustrating as hell!
thanks for the comments!

Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
if you look at it money wise, it would be cheaper just to put the car back to stock and sell it. Use the money you get to buy a used rsx or buy a new si.
if you do the numbers its not really worth it unless you really love your car.
$18k for ex civic + $5-8k for k20z3 swap = $23-26k
thats basically evo and sti territory.
Your other option is to built a custom turbo kit. The turbo kit can run between $2k-4k depending how good of parts you want.
Boost would be the cheapest way to get a lot of power.
I did the same thing i sold my 7th gen civic for $11k. I bought a 94 gsr for $5k. To build internals is around $5k + a good turbo kit $5k. So $15k i have a 500hp integra.
Only bad thing is, that my car is a huge theft magnet. Someone with a similar setup to me get his car jacked this week.
Only thing i miss about my 7th gen is the interior space. The integra's,eg's, and ek have a lot less interior space compared to the 7th gens.

Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
well i guess o could sell it off but much of the mods would have to stay anyhow seeing as id prob chase my dream of a 2001 civic boosted and modded heavy. So no part from a 8thgen would do it, then i could be an official ************.com dude, and post a car that actually fit there.

OMG! Read the swap forum. You can't put a b18 in your car without more money than swapping a k20.
Don't bring back year old threads if it isn't pertinent to your question. You just found a random swap thread and decided to post in it rather than searching.

Re: Engine swap B18C R18A1
haha i like the r18, i just have a cai and exhaust and i pass people up on the highway and blast alot of 200 to 230 hp v6 cars. I have no problem with the r18a1. Plus i dont have the money to swap for an si anyway, im just saving my money untill people get done tinkering. Then ill find the best boost for my buck haha. Idk, i mean 220 hp in a civ is pretty fast anyway. Plus you have to look at why your doing it. A. you like working on cars, and you want your car to be fun. or B. you want the fastest **** on the road... in which case you shouldnt have gotten a civic to start with.
