Re: Install headunit

if you still need help, i think the plastic on the front of the dash pops out somehow, then screws are accessable to remove the deck, but my stereo shop guy told me it was a bit of a pain to do it?

you should post a DIY if you do it man!
then Civicforums would have an article on this topic.

Re: Install headunit

You will spend about 3 hours behind your new install. Very involved

That's a negative. Unless you have no idea what you're doing.

It's pretty easy. I just did this with my 07 civic a few weeks ago. First you need to remove the little side panel between the door and the dashboard on the driver's side. It should just pop out. Then you will need to remove the lower dash panel beneath the steering wheel. There will be a couple of screws involved there. No big deal. Then, you need to remove the upper dash panel above the steering wheel. If I remember correctly it just pops out. Disconnect the wires from the mirror switches. Then, in the little cubby hole underneath the HVAC controls, there's a little panel that will pop out with the help of a small flat blade screw driver. Now, you have to feel around up inside. There will be two bolts securing the entire dash-radio unit to the car. I think there were size 8 or 10mm. They're a pain in the **** to remove, too, so be patient. Once you remove those two bolts the dash-radio unit will pop out. Be careful to disconnect wires from the HVAC controls, the hazard light switch, and etc. before you just rip the thing out of there. You will also need a power antenna adapter, and a wiring harness adapter to hook up an aftermarket head unit. If you follow those instructions you should be able to install the head unit in about an hour, depending on your knowledge of cars and how good you are at splicing and soldering wires. Remember when you hook up the aftermarket harness you need to solder the wires and preferrably use heat-shrink tubing. Wire nuts are the wrong answer on cars.

Any further questions?
