Problem with Sat-Nav in our EX Civic...

Hey guys,

My parents own a 2006 EX 2.2 i-CTDi Civic, which we have had for a good few weeks now. We have enjoyed the unique experience of the car very much, but just a few hours ago, we came across a problem - an odd one at that.

When you turn the Sat-Nav to night mode, the screen is at full brightness and is clearly readable, but after a few minutes, it would, itself, turn its brighness down to an almost unreadable level. When we go back and adjust the brightness ourselves, it still says it's still full, but clearly it's at a much lower setting. When you switch back into daylight and into nighttime mode again, the screen is back to normal. A few minutes later, it slowly goes dark and undreadable again. After a while, it would occasionally slightly fluctuate between brightest and low over and over.

Has anyone else had this odd problem? It's a UK Civic, and it seems not many UK'ers are here, so I won't be surprised if anyone hasn't had this problem themselves. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

you need to take it back to the dealer and have them check out the software in the NAV system it may have gone bad for many unknown reasons.that is all that i can think of, bad software, screen etc.

Yeah, that could be the only solution.

We only just figured out yesterday that you can change colours to the backgrounds and menus, and that seems to get rid of the problem. If it does come back again, no doubt we'll get it checked out.

sounds to mee like a defective monitor.. but like everyone else said, take it to the dealer.. and the 2.2 i-CTDI would be the european turbo diesel model of the civic...

Yeah, a turbo-diesel. Still one of the best 4-pot diesels out there as far as I know - completely made of alloy too.

We used to own a 2.7 Diesel Jaguar, and the Civic is pretty much just as quick, which I still find quite shocking.

The monitor problem still hasn't appeared again, so it won't get checked out until it comes back. Thanks for the replies though.
