So maybe its not the newest idea, or at least I haven't seen anyone do it yet...BUT...I had this idea in my head to alter the stock airbox and have the short 1/2 of my AEM SRI pipe connected to it...i can't really explain it well without pictures...
my idea was to take out my SRI...install the stock airbox (the big box part that goes over the throttle body containing the air filter element)...
u with me here?
then where there is the (__) opening part of the box, see if I could fit the 1/2 of the SRI into the stock air box part....
like i said i can't explain without pics and i don't know if u all are following me on this one...but hopefully it gains me back the low end I loss when i installed my SRI...at the same time giving me the mid-high gains of a SRI....at least it wouldn't be sucking HOT HOT air inside...it would eliminate that prob hopefully....
I'mma do it tmw or the following days and take pics of it and tell u all how it performs...I'm always up for new things and if it works for me...i'll let yall know!!

Ahhh........YES! I have achieved what I have wanted to achieve and gotten my low end back with some mid-high end kick! Woohoo! I aint lyin folks! I've got like 10 pics to prove how i did it...and i did it various ways, using the intake filter w/o the filter inside the box, using the filter in the box without the intake filter on the end...I took it on test runs this afternoon and I am happy to say that this DOES work...and its not in my head either...
It works the same way as a CAI...although I wouldn't call it one...but hey...it looks cool and doesn't look GHETTO at all...its very easy, it only took me about 15mins to do. Now let me get to the goods and UL the pics!

Aight, Ill take u step by step on how I did it...
First, if you have a SRI and wanna do this...
1. Disconnect your SRI completely
2. Take the half of your stock airbox and put it back on top of the throttle body...make sure you use the lil rubber plug thing to secure the 02 plug back in place.
3. Using one of the rubber hose things from the SRI, place it half ways inside the air box and leave half outside the airbox. Leaving enough to put in the pipe.
4. Now, with that rubber hose half way in, attach the top of the airbox cover and screw in all screws.
5. Now, take that rubber nozzle thing that was attached to the stock airbox and place it on the long end of the pipe. (it will take some muscle to get it on, but u can do it!)
6. Take your intake pipe and push it in the half of the rubber hose thing and angle it down toward the gap/opening u see down inside the engine bay. (Push the pipe as far into the rubber hose thing as you can)
7. With that all said and done, u should be close to being done. Don't forget the clamps!! Screw 2 of those in where the half of the rubber thing comes out of the airbox. Fasten tightly!
8. And I think we have it...it should not be hanging and should be well in there.
Start your car, put your hand where the rubber nozzle is (way down there) and rev your car from the throttle under the hood....can u feel all that air suckin' in?? Ahh yes...now go take it for a ride and tell me what u think? I am not BS'n, i could feel a low end difference kuz I took it on more than 4 runs. Opinions are welcome!

I don't get it....
What filter are you using the K&N style cone, or the stock.
if your using the stock, isn't the stock hose drawing air from the side better than where your drawing air from ??

the only filter that I have in there is the stock air filter in the stock airbox....there is no K&N filter on the pipe at all...plus, when it was all stock, it was still sucking in hot air....i angled it the furthest i could away from the engine and all the hot components...

This makes no sense, you're now sucking in air from between the exhaust downpipe, the tranny housing, the engine block and the firewall. The firewall is insulated to keep the heat out, and the other 3 are hot as hell... whats the use of this? You just put the induction point in what could be the WORST possible place.
Try this... Leave the air box exactly where it is, and re-route your intake point under the battery. There's a big open area between the bottom of the battery tray, the splashguard and the side of the radiator. Protected and the air will be much cooler than back there. You're not going to accomplish anything by leaving it where it is. Shouldn't be too hard to do... use the wiring harness bolt the Injen CAI uses to fasten the pipe to.

Like I stated before I did 4 runs and changed the angle of the piping 3 ways and where i have it now is optimal for me. As for the pipe, since the pipe isnt' that long it doesn't even come close to the downpipe, and its not even facing that way...i couldn't get my camera all the way inside to show u guys that...damn mavica's!!
