Thank`s for all your help
Yup !!
No adjustable , I`ll use a 17mm !
And I plan to pour in 3.5 and then add until it filled.
I think that they added to much at the factory (it goes beyond the upper most hole in the dip stick)
Now I need it to stop raining long enough to do it
Anyway I`ll be sure to let you folks in on my progress , it`s been a few years since I changed my own oil.
My Civic has a little over 1K , the service manager said to wait until 5K . but just can`t do it.
I will be using the new "Mobile 1 --0w -20" with a "Wix" filter !!
(I heard that OEM are "Fram"
)
My car is a Coupe EX (of course) and is "Shorlinemist Met." and I had the dealership install "Satin Silver Met." side mouldings, and also have the OEM splash guards and black floor mats to add contrast to the interior (instead of tan)
Well , thats my ride !!
Milage so far around 34mpg and it`s has an auto trany ( I luv the fact that you can go 70 mph and not even hit 3K
)
Take care folks , " I`ll be back"

Hi Guy`s,
Thanks for the tip , but , from the info I was able to gather changing the oil from regular to synth can be done anytime after 500ml.
Anyway , for some strange reason , the oil has a burnt smell to it.
I have varied my speed and revs for 1K and I have felt , not only the engine but the hole car lossen up and tighten up.
In other words, when I first got the car (4/10) the engine was tight I did not push it until 600ml and even then I have yet to floor it.
On the other end (so to speak) the car was very lose when I first drove it and now she`s settling in (suspention (spl? )
So I feel that she`s ready for some good oil . Not that I intend to push it right away, I do understand that new motors are assembled with moly lube to protect the cam lobes and balance shaft. I think that break-in has been done.
Further use of the original oil might start to leave to heavy of a moly lube and oil mixure. If my theory is correct , when I first noticed that burnt smell of motor oil , I came to the conclusion that the first part of the break-in was finished.
Now to part 2 , I`ll use the synth oil to further the break - in prossess , but with a higher quality of oil and without any moly lube that is now mixed with the original oil. In time , contiued use of synth oil IMO can only benifit the engine.
I`m not an expert , but from all that I have read and heard from other mech. and tech`s , now is a good time.
If I contiune to let the engine get used to the synth oil I think and hope it will be A-OK !!
Thank you all for your concern , I mean that
"this could be the start of a beautiful relationship" LOL

Hi EDIcivic2K1,
Yes it is and I think it`s brand new !~!
I was on "mobil`s" web site last week and it wasn`t listed.
I went back a few days ago and it was there.
In fact I had a hard time finding some. I went to all the usual places, like , Pep Boy`s , VIP , AutoZone and all they had in full sunth was the regular stuff like 5w-30 - 10w-30 . I did see that they had 0w-30 , but I was realy hesitant about getting something with a top-end rating that high.
So I finaly said , Gee , I think I`ll try a Mobil Service station and sure enough they just got some in and it says right on the bottle that it is for "Honda 5w-20" appilcations.
The bad part was the price $6.49 a qt , but I think in time places like Pep Boys and the like will be carring it, I think it`s that new.
From my understanding the lower the higher number (ie: 5w or 0w 20 vers. say a 5w - 30 or 40 ) is that it lower the number the faster it will desipate heat.
Now if civic`s came with an oil cooler then running a 5w-30 or even 10w 30 or higher would be ok but because of the engine design and the exsuast going right under the engine (or very close to it) and heat rises when the car is stoped , it only makes sence that a quick heat disipating oil should be used.
On the other end (the low number) the civics (like most cars today) have very tight tolorences and heat is often and main concern. So without any oil cooler or larger oil pan (ie: 2L --S2K or the RSK type S ) the only way to cool the oil as much as possibly is with a low viscosity oil.
Just in case , you need an oil change bad , and you want to go with a full synth oil I think 0w-30 Mobil 1 would be a-ok .
If i had not found the 0w-20 , that is what I was going to use.
Take care
