Modifying TYC's?

In order to put the plug and play H1 HID kit into the TYC's, will I have to make the bulb opening any bigger? I know that the HID bulbs are bigger then standard H1. I do not want to retrofit Audi lenses or anything. I just want to throw the kit into the stock TYC's. Thanks.

My MTech's lasted about 8 months. THen I got some Euro Dezignz that lasted like 2 days. Try driving down the interstate at 2 in the morning going 80 miles an hour when your headlight bulbs burn out.
Not fun ...

I dont have HIDs but i DO have projectors, and i pulled it apart once to see how it was built and the H1 bulb is riiight there at the metal plate that is inside the lens. . .correct me if i'm wrong but the HID bulb is longer than the regular filament...so it might touch the metal plate and cause the bulb to break or something.

Beam Pattern would suck

Your TYCs are set up to project light with a standard halogen bulb, if you get an HID kit the light would be projected all over the place and you would have people getting blinded by your lights. I understand if you dont have the ***** to do it, but the best possible thing to do is to replace the stock TYC projectors with Audi or BMW bixenon projectors (hella) with ballasts. You would have a sharp cutoff, the HID's would be legal and you would see a lot more of the road than with regular shitty HID kits. You can find these projectors with ballasts and harnesses for between 400-500 dollars. Or you can just retrofit the projectors from an Audi (with or without Audi bulbs) and get a 9006 HID kit (this would cost a lot more). Although this project would be pretty difficult, you would have the brightest non blinding hids on this site (until of course I retrofit my angel eyes).

Well if anyone finds that DIY then post the link. I am planning on doing a retrofit sometime this summer/early fall. When I do it I will post a DIY if that link is not found. Hopefully it is basically the same thing to retrofit TYC's as it is angel eyes or else that DIY means nothing to me. But when its done you can imagine how sweet it would look.

On a side note, does anyone know how you would wire it with bixenons, how do you get it so when you flip the high beam switch, the bixenons go to high beam. Cuz with mine, it would switch to the other bulb and my HIDs would burn out quickly because of how many times they would have to be re-ignited.

Im almost done w/ my Euro Audi A6 into my TYC projectors. Im in the process of Aiming them right now. They are technically aimed perfectly, but since my car is lowered you can't see the purple aberation on the cutoff band until i hit a bump or inclination. Im trying to aim them so that after 40 ft or so there is no yellow or white and just blue and purple on the cutoff so I would have to aim them higher than 1 inch below 25 feet.

Did you get any pictures of that, I would love to see it (the install and the final result).

Are the Audi A6 projectors bixenon? Because if they are I was wondering how you wire it so that the current isnt cut off when you switch to the high beams.

Hopefully all goes well for your install, when I get the money (after buying rims and a kit) I will be doing this too.

No my projectors aren't bixenon and thank god they arent. All new bixenon projectors have a flip up cutoff sheild and is controled through a solenoid that flips the sheild up or down. Since this requires a different reflective optic in depth you'll notice that the newer HID's in Audi's and BMW's don't have the same Purplish cutoff effect or is minimized by this new shield. Also I still have my H1 high beams which is more trust worthy and cheaper to fix than a bixenon solenoid. Don't even bother w/ bixenon's unless your retrofitting onto your stock housing's rendering you without the use of high beams. Bixenons also have alot more depth and width to deal w/ and with the A6 in my TYC's theres absolutely no space for any of that. I'll start a new thread when I get the pics up.

Screw MTEC bulbs, bright my ***, no brighter than stock "non-coated" halogen. In fact, even less lumens output. eople often associate "bluer" with "brighter" -- which unfortunately, is untrue (even in the case with HIDs, lumens output drops as color gets bluer) HID is the only way to go I'm running 5,200 K Philips H4 HID. Beam pattern is close to stock, and i rarely get highbeamed. From far away, looks really intense and really intimidating hehe

I would love to get the TYCs though, no matter what, you still need highbeams.
