Clearing headlights using oven

Ok, at one time I heard of someone using an oven to loosen the sealent in the headlights. I was wondering if anybody had the temperature the oven is suppos to be set on?

I've heard about someone doing the same things but for the tail lights.. The guy had a 2nd gen integra, put the tails in the oven and I guess the red stuff melted off or something! It'd be pretty interesting to find out the temp it has to be set at if anyone knows.

You should put it on like 250 but be careful to check constantly, also i used a hair blow dryer which seemed to work the best it just takes a little longer thats all, be sure to reseal everything with silicone and lots of it to ensure it doesn't fog.

I set the oven temp to about 200 and checked it after about 2 minutes. The glue was soft enough to pull apart after that. Just keep an eye on it and you will be ok.

Just use the lowest temp. I put mine in at 250 (I think) for about 10 minutes...but it smelled a bit of melting plastic when I took them out. But everything was fine. Cleared mine last Dec and no fogging at all.

250 degrees. My friend did it, but he used too little sealant and they were all foggy. If you do it right, it looks really nice.

Make sure you are there and keep a close eye on it! Just some advice...

I forgot what temp I used...but it sure is better than using a heat gun...my friend basically melted his RSX headlights...MUHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did mine at 250 for about 3-5 min. Keep an eye on it. It is way easier than a hairdryer.

I never put mine in the oven, I cleared my coupe headlights and only used a hair dryer and a couple of screwdrivers. Came off really easy.

240 at 7 minutes... also do it when you are putting it back together and you wont even need to use any extra sealant

me, osofast2001 and mndthegap1

just took the headlights appart and i added a nice border of silicone to it... just happends that the following day the left headlight fogged up completley, and the right one fogged a lil, but went away 100%...

A couple of days later i took em off the car, and blow dryed em for about 10-15 mins each on high, and put like an inch of silicone around the border =] now, none of em fog up

Even if you do put em back in the oven, i would add some clear-water proof silicone to it, just to be on the safe side

If you look in the DIY section, it will tell you step-by-step how to remove the lights.

As for the paint, 500 degree paint as far as I know and I believe some have sprayed a clear coat too.

And as for the tail lights, not to sure about that.

you shouldn't need to bake the coupe headlights, only the sedan. if you are doin a sedan keep the oven at 200-250, no longer than 8 min.'s should be easier than splittin a prostitutes legs

Why shouldn't you have to do it to Coupe lights? What makes them different?

Just had to post up another one - when blacking out, try using Duplicolor Engine Enamel...it sticks well to the chrome, and dries real quick.n Better than the generic flat black stuff you find in Canadian Tire or Walmart.

I didn't heat mine at all. It came apart easy with a screwdriver. Just open them slow.

I had an extra head lamp from a run in and that was a pain in the *** to separate. I would definently recommend some type of heat source. I am planning to try an oven when I clear my headlamps.

Telly: where can you get Duplicolor Engine Enamel?
